  1. Lexus Owners 300918 Thanks for Flasher info Dear Fellow Lexus Owners, Thanks for the Flasher info! It turned out there was a little corrosion on the bulb, making it malfunction. I took out the bulb and put it back in, and it started working again. JC
  2. Dear Fellow Lexus ES300 owners, at 204,000 miles, I had to have the Power Steering High pressure hose replaced on my 98 Lexus ES300 for $360, including the part. One of the repairmen that gave an estimate told me that it is a very common repair for the Toyota 3 liter V6 engine.
  3. Dear GBHRPS, I am still working this problem. Is the front left seat motor system the same on Lexus and Camry? If I buy a camry motor, will it work?
  4. Dear GBHRPS, Thank you for your great, detailed reply. I will try it. JC

Now I can't move the seat forward so my short wife can drive the car. I can tell it is not the motor, as the seat tilt, and up-down works, and there is a click when I try to move the seat forward or back. There is no obstruction I could see under the seat to prevent movement. Has anyone had this problem? How do I fix it? JC

  7. Yes, I agree with Brennen, the link http://users.adelphia.net/~talmeida/Lexus/...dio_Removal.pdf Does not work. I also will be doing the same repair.
  8. Dear DC fish, I have the same problem on a 98 ES300. How hard is it to replace the LCD? What do they cost?
  9. Lexus Owners Club 180615 malfunctioning auto dim mirror Dear fellow Lexus owners, the video is a complicated way to fix the mirror. Replacing the glass is complicated, too. The malfunctioning auto dim mirror appears to be a common problem. The Lexus recommended fix, i.e. replacing the mirror and associated hardware, is very expensive. The simple fix is to find, or have fabricated, a replacement mirror (glass only), and glue it over the malfunctioning mirror. It is possible there are universal replacement mirrors that can be used. Has anyone done this? Please provide costs and sources. JC
  10. The mirrors on high-end cars use a phenomenon known as electrochromism. Basically, there is a fluid or gel sandwiched between panes of glass which, when excited by an electrical signal, cause the reflective properties of the glass to change. Typical failures are having this fluid or gel leak out. Older Acura's are infamous for the rearview mirrors leaking fluid onto the shifter console. Here is a little more info... http://www.answers.com/Q/What_is_an_electrochromic_rearview_mirror Sounds like someone overengineered this and didn't test it properly before including in the production line. They have taken what was a perfect design and screwed it up.
  11. Not cheap, $550 at Lexus. What alternative do you have. Photo attached.
  12. Dear Guru Member and Gbhrps, thanks for your comments. I am currently negotiating with Lexus regarding this. I found out it actually has to do with the auto dimming feature on the mirrror. I will also check on replacement mirrors. JC
  13. Dear fellow Lexus Owners, My 2001 Lexus ES300 has a cloudy driver side mirror. It looks like the reflective material on the inside of the mirror is peeling off. It appears to be the same problem the participants above have experienced. So far, Lexus has not admitted to me that there is a history to this problem. I have exactly the same model 1998 Lexus, and it doesn't appear to have the problem. Must be that the 98 does not have the auto dimming outside mirrors. I am disappointed, because I bought the same model 01 because the 98 was so trouble free.
  14. Dear fellow Lexus Owners, My 2001 Lexus ES300 has a cloudy driver side mirror. It looks like the reflective material on the inside of the mirror is peeling off. Has anyone else had this problem? What causes it? JC

  16. Dear Chared, great no of miles. I am in late 60s so it looks like the ES will be the last car I own. JC
  17. Dear Backwoods Lex, outstanding. Did you have the timing belt regularly replaced? I own a 98 ES300 and I just bought a 2001 ES300 with 77K on it, so now I have two! JC
  18. Dear Steve, how many miles did you have on your ES300 when you sold it? JC
  19. Dear fellow ES300 Owners, does anyone know what is the Record for the No of miles on an ES300? My 98 ES300 has 172K on it and is still going strong. Only thing wrong is a little oil drip.
  20. Dear Official LOC Detailaholic. I went back to the dealership, and spoke to the Sales Manager. He ordered a new key for me, at no charge. JC
  21. Dear fellow Lexus Owners, I have owned a 98 Lexus ES300 since 2005, and it has been the best car I ever owned. It was such a positive experience, I just bought an 01 Lexus ES300. I would like to hear about your experience with reliability, longevity, etc for the ES300. JC
  22. Dear Fellow Lexus Owners, I just bought a 2001 Lexus ES300. Beautiful car, but the master key is damaged, so I need to get another made. The Lexus dealer charges at least $75. Does anyone have any experience with getting a locksmith to make the key? Where can you get the blank key? JC
