4 Point Bosche Platinum Spark Plugs Stink!
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Just looked at each plug when I installed them to see if one of the 4 points were pushed in or any other visable flaws... -

4 Point Bosche Platinum Spark Plugs Stink!
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Well then Bosche is not properly matching their plugs at factory production to fit cars and trucks like mine...When purchased at the autoparts store they are specifically matched to my car....Install them and I lose power, take them out and replace them with the single pointers and power is restored.... That is all the proof I need to claim these plugs suck..... I thoughly tested and checked for improper gapping and or spark plug connections, all checked out... Bottom line is they do not produce a greater spark then the single point plugs inside the combustion chamber as they claim too...... Since Boshce is German Company maybe they are designed to better perform to German made cars and motors such as yours 92Lex.... I really don't see how that could be, but I guess I can agree to that... -
Yeah the Basic's and SS teins are adequate coilovers for sure..A friend of mine has the SS teins and likes them very much... Too tighten up the steering I would say change your front LCA bushings and the single rack bushing and you should be good to go....
-
GDawg - The tein flex would be your best and most expensive choice... That is if you can afford them.. Did you know they also sell a setting box that is mounted in the cabin...That is with a push of a button you can adjust the coilovers as you drive to stiff or soft...It's pretty cool, I think the control box is like $300 and is sold by Tein.....

I think it is a good idea to change out the entire lower control arms because not only do the bushings deteriorate there is a very important built in pivot joint with a rubber boot cover that wears out as well and is not replaceabe on the arms...My original SC control arm pivot joints were toast and infact in dangerous condition and that's on my 1992 SC400 with only 110,000 miles....I would press the brake pedal while moving in reverse and actually watch the tire move forward and back just a little bit which it is not suppose to happen.... My newly installed supra lower control arms fixed that and cost me $500 for both at the Toyota dealership, I think I got a dealer discount of 10%.....Lexus dealership SC400 LCA's almost costs twice as much and are not even as good and strong... My old arms with the daisen bushings inside them ended up in my garbage can....I've been running 3 years on the Supra's with the OEM bushings and love them..Can't say one bad thing about them... Try and buy all parts at the Toyota dealerships if possible and not LEXUS, it's amazing the difference in part prices between the two.... Remember most 93-98 Supra parts fits directly on our SC's perfectly...Same subframes...

Sorry to hear you got smacked in the back end, I hate when that happens.... Yeah a new paint job of high quality does wonders for an older SC...It did for mine..

GDawg - The suspension feel you are looking can be found with the Coilovers... They have different settings with variations so you can adjust the settings to your liking... The Eibachs are stiff lowering springs which increase handling and stiffness but decrease the luxury suspension feel... Shocks can stiffen up the ride a little bit but it's usually the springs that transform the suspension and feel...Control arm bushing replacement tighten up things and create a truer steering and suspension feel... That is the best I can explain it... Good luck with those Daisens.....If you want to make the daisens last then keep them lubricated, because there is no steel ribbed sides on those bushings so the grease is not held in place and over time you get a mushroom effect with the bushings, noise, etc... Repeat bushing Lubrication should help maintain the bushings, hopefully...

Hey GDAWG what's going on....The Torque Converter upgrade allows the car to perform just like stock, no wheel spin or head jerks when driving the car normally....However, hammer the gas at launch and the wheel or wheels will spin... The throttle is more responsive but nothing to be concerned about, the luxury will ride and feel of the car is not compromised with either the T.C. and or the LSD... Also the Poly bushings will work fine, I just like the daisens.....Any control arm bushing replacements really help the ride and steering feel especially if you are driving an older SC with high miles... Just make sure a lot of grease is used when replacing the bushings....Lubrication is the key with any bushing replacements.. I highly recommend bushing changes for all the older Sc's...

Yeah those Merc's are pretty fast, especially the AMG's...I have had trouble in the past hanging with the bigger AMG's like the E55... The topend power is very impressive on those 500hp AMG's... Ok, the stock intake does flow decent but the BFI intake flows much better...With the change you probably won't feel any difference but the fact that the engine is able to breathe better is always a good thing...It's a virtually free mod, the BFI design uses the stock intake parts that you modify yourself...Nothing outperforms the BFI intake design, that is nothing that you can buy off the shelf and is street legal..... You can buy an Apex-i SAFC II (piggy back ECU) on EBay, APexi website, etc...Buying the unit is no biggie they sell all over the place. I think it costs around $300... Any high performance import shop should point you in the right direction...It's about eight wires that connect directly into your stock ECU box that is located under the passenger side floor mat at the top.... Most Dyno shops do the tuning and piggy back ECU installation for usually around $200 tops... You need to bust out the yelow pages and call around for shops or even ask APEXI to refer you to a shop near your area... With that mod you will notice a difference for sure..The car should run crispier, more responsive, and stronger at the topend... The piggy back ECU deal should cost no more then $500 in total and that includes installation and tuning... LSD - The 93-98 Supra TT LSD (AUTOMATIC TRANNY ONLY) and bolt right up perfectly to the SC400's... It's a perfect match with no alterations needed... Drop the old stock differential out and bolt up the Supra TT LSD and drive off with traction... The Manual tranny 93-98 Supra's rear differential LSD's won't work, different gearing..You need to get one off an automatic Supra TT 93-98... I found mine in one day at a local import junk yard here in LA.... You need to search, try Supra forums, import wreck yards, and just make calls.... I paid $500 for my used supra LSD about 3 years ago and it has been good to me ever since... Hope this info helps....

4 Point Bosche Platinum Spark Plugs Stink!
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
My 4.5L straight six banger motor in my Landcruiser runs like crap with the 4 point plugs....Ran super with the normal NGK plugs...GO FIGURE... 92LEX Do you have a stronger then stock ignition system going on in your ride? I am thinking these 4 point plugs probably work better on race application type motors, where the ignition systems are stronger and produce a stronger spark to support the four point plugs better...Any thoughts on that? -
