  1. I'd be concerned about dry rot too. I don't think I'd run tires for very long if they look as bad as you describe. I have a set of the Revos on the wife's LX 450. I think they're a great tire. Very quiet as well. We're very happy with the Revos. FWIW, I purchased my tires from America's/Discount Tiire Co. They have an excellent tire warranty package that you can purchase on top of tire price -- I've replaced several tires with them -- never had a problem.
  2. Check the bottom corners of the windsheild glass. Mine's leaking from there --0 th edrips are very obvious when it's raining. if you find thi sis the problems, you'd need to seal it somehow or replace the windsheild gasket.
  3. As Rookie said, the locking front/rear differentials were not standard. They were available on both Land Cruisers and LX 450s. The LX 450 has slightly softer rear springs than the Land Cruiser. The ride will be cushier, but some feel that it sways a little too much. I wouldn't worry too much about the label (lexus vs. toyota) thing. People seem to be wising up to the fact that there's virtually no difference between the models.
  4. it depends. prices vary from region to region. A LX 450 from California or Arizona might be worth more than one that spent its life in Minnesota. what really matters is how much do you want to pay. Are you willing to pay the price for a nice vehicle? If so, it's worth as much as you're willing to pay. if you want hard numbers, check nadaguide.com, kbb.com and edmunds.com to get a general idea of what the going rate is. I bought my wife's LX 450 a couple years ago for about $19k -- it had 68k miles and was in perfect condition. I thought that was a fair deal at the time...today...it would be a bit high. How much are they asking for it?
  5. I put some wheelskins on my wheel. Made a huge improvement, IMHO. www.wheelskins.com just pull the new leather on and stitch it together. I went with a 2-tone -- oak and black -- my advice would be to stick with one color. If I were to do it again, I think I'd go with the perferated model in all black (maybe a dark brown)
  6. Have you guys seen this one? I have one in my and one in my wife's LX 450. They're $62 at the following site: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/produc...terior_main.htm Installation takes less than 5 minutes -- it slides right into the little cubby above the stereo on the LX 450.
  7. Based on your description, your cup holders are aftermarket. The closest thing to a rear (2nd row) cup holder on the LX 450 is the one on drivers side of the center console.
  8. You're gonna need to go custom. To verify, post this same question in the 80 series tech forum on www.ih8mud.com
  9. hello i was wondering how much you want for the seats and if you can found out how much shipping is going to be. You got a zip code?
  10. The 100 is a little wider. The mounts for the seats are not the same. Nor are the mounts on the Prado the same.
  11. Toy - try Autozone for a code check. Get the code from them and post here what the code is. I have a factory service manual, so I can tell you what the code translates to. The EGR might trigger a code -- it could be your O2 sensors...but there's no way to know until you find out what the code is. I live in the sacramento area -- let me know if I can help. An easy way to clear the code is to disconnect the negative cable from your battery for about 1 minute, then replace. Cheers.
  12. it could be a bad sensor on one of your passenger side doors (front or rear) or it could be a loose screw on your door striker. Check the striker first. The striker is the "U" shaped bolt that your door latches to. On a LX 450 there should be 2 screws holding this on the "B" or "C" pillar. Make sure both screws are TIGHT! As tight as you can get them. I had a similar problem when 1 screw was a half-turn loose. If you find that all strikers are as tight as they can be and you're still having a problem, then go for the door switch. As for the part number for the switch -- I don't know it, but either search on www.ih8mud.com on the 80 series tech forum for door switch OR better yet, contact CruiserDan on the same forum. Either send a PM to him or call him -- his contact info is on the Vendors section. He's a parts guy at a toyota dealership -- he can get you any part you need for your LX 450 (as long as it's not a Lexus-only part -- which the door switch is not).
  13. It can't be all that mysterious. Open the panel, find the wires and follow them up. You'll find the control box.
  14. Everyone's butt is going to be a little different. Some are going to prefer one over the other...you might disagree. Take them both for a test drive. Personally, I prefer the LX 470 to the GX 470, but then...there's the price difference. I think the LX 470 is a superior product; it's been in existence longer -- much more time to iron out any bugs that might've popped up along the way. But again...this is just my opinion...some might agree, some might not.
  15. First of all -- and don't take this the wrong way -- you need to be more clear on the models you're looking at. The LX 450 does not, nor did it ever have OnStar or anything resembling it. Its last production year was 1997. The current Lexus LX model is the LX 470. The smaller Lexus SUV is the GX 470. The LX 470 is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series. The GX 470 is based on the (IIRC) Toyota Land Cruiser 120 series (Prado). Are you looking at the LX 450 or the LX 470?
  16. do a search on www.IH8MUD.com in the 80 series tech forum for birfield and/or brake rotor -- you'll find a wealth of information there. A number of us on this forum are on that forum too. The manual I use is the factory service manual for the 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser when I work on my truck. IMO, it's the best, bar none. The bearings are not required, just a smart thing to repack since you're in there anyway.
  17. No luck tracking down the additional info. Actually, I found the info, but the link with the write-up and pics is now dead. Have them track the O2 sensor wires along the firewall. These are the ones that could get frayed as well. Usually near the front driveshaft, but not always there. In the mean time...I hope they have you in a nice loaner :D
  18. Good call Rookie! I'd bet that's the problem. Check for the EFI fuse being blown. It's a 15AMP fuse located in the engine compartment fuse box (not the one on the dash). I had the same fuse blow on me while on the Rubicon Trail this last weekend. When I owned a 94 Land Cruiser, the exact same thing happened to me. It happened several times. I know of another site that has some information regarding the wiring harness chaffing. Let me look for it and post another reply. The other one had a very nice write up with a couple nice pics. Now...I need to track down the problem on my rig...
  19. the piezo can be turned on/off. check the OWNER'S MANUAL for instructions. if the instructions do not work...the piezo might just be dead. mine died a couple years ago. I just watch for the lights flashing...I prefer to be chirpless.
  20. no. won't conserve fuel use. just take it easy on acceleration and keep speeds steady. that's about all you can do.
  21. either search here in this forum for "starter contacts" or, better yet, search the www.IH8MUD.com 80 series Tech forum for starter contacts. your starter contacts are most likely old and worn. the first signs are that you'll try to start your 450, but nothing will happen. The worst case, is what you described happening -- it happened to me too -- where your plunger (in the starter) gets stuck on the contacts and the starter is basically stuck on. I know you said that you checked the contacts...but I'd replace them (if you know how -- instructions can be found on the IH8MUD.com site or on the tech section of the www.sleeoffroad.com site) or, you could shell out $300 for a new starter -- that would be faster (I'd get a remanufactured Toyota starter). Based on what you posted, it really doesn't sound like the ignition -- it's got all the tell-tale symptions and signs of bad starter contacts.
  22. no, don't bother with IH8MUD.com go to general discussion forum at www.pirate4x4.com -- ask the question there. you should be able to find someone who can help.
  23. Yes, they're large and slow when compared to a 545i. But they're confortable, very reliable, and hold their value quite well. If you think the 470 is slow...you should try driving my LX 450 :D
  24. check with your local toyota dealership -- they might be more experienced tracking stuff down...possibly.
