  1. Nobody feels the way i do about lexus then the people here so thats why im comeing to you guys for help. I have a 93 LS400 that needs a engine the one in the car now has almost 300k . Im told im runin on only four good cylinders. So what should i do? I found an engine, used of course 4 $700. I would still have to find someone to put it in and it also comes with a 6months warranty. Should i go this route and try to save my lex. or spend $5-$6000 on another one?      By the way what u guys think about the transmision. It feels strong now but should i be concerned  about it.

replace the engine, replace the rear main seal and insect the TQ converter, replace if nessecary and call it good!

  2. Enjoy.....

A lady walked into a Lexus dealership to browse, and spotted the most

beautiful, perfect, LS430 & walked over to inspect it closer. As

she bent forward to feel the fine leather upholstery, an unexpected Little

burst of flatulence escaped her. Very embarrassed, she anxiously looked

around to see if anyone had noticed. Sure enough, there standing behind her

was a salesman. With a pleasant smile he greeted her, "Good day, Madame.

How may we help you today?" Trying to maintain an air of sophistication and

acting as though nothing had happened, she smiled back and asked, Sir, what

is the price of this lovely vehicle?"

Still smiling pleasantly, he replied, "Madame, I'm very sorry to say that if

you farted just touching it, you are gonna $hit when you hear the price."

    :D

  3. so when we need moderately to extremely expensive parts.....you'll hook us up???

    :whistles:

    steviej

i'll see what can be done...i dont want to abuse this...

it looks like i will most likely be able to help out with expensive parts...so anybody who is in need, PM me and i will see what i can do. preferably only on parts over $250 and/or hard to find. this guy is good!

  4. I just have my 95 LS400 rack & pinion, power steering pump replaced about 2 months ago.  The steering is more stable now on high speed driving (it used to veer to the right), but at low speed or parking, the steering feels hard and heavy.  What is causing this? Did I miss replacing anything else together with rack & pinion?

    Thanks.

its speed sensitive steering, its probably normal.

  5. Does the dash brake light also come on if you have a problem with the ABS?

mine comes on every once in a while when i hit a bump, there si an electrical connection down there that seems to be loose inside the console. one day, when im annoyed and it bothers me enough, ill rip it out and change/fix it...

just tap the ebrake handle and it should go away.

oh wait...you have an '02, so you have a foot brake, never mind. B)

  6. oh my bad!! well, my firewall in the "network connections" is off, but that little security center of windows said that there is a firewall turned on, so i'm ok with that!

Don't you hate it when it is something so stupid like that and you couldn't figure it out? :D

I'm glad to hear that everything is all good! :)

actually, i forgot to mention that i didn't do anything to my pc when that little security center of Windows told me about my firewall! Well the good part, i fixed my stupid problem w/o even doing anything?!?!?! (i don't know what was going) actually at one point, that security center told me about my firewall being off, but when i checked it after a few days, said that it was on so i'm ok with that!! Hey, as long as my pc lives for 2 years, i'm happy!!!

is there a link to this spyware remover? i need it...bad...

  7. all cars come with "some kind" of tint (to check, look at something outside w/ windows closed, then open windows while still looking at the same thing, there's a little difference)

by the looks of that tint, looks like it's about a 35-50% (even though u said 20, it doesn't look that dark)

i have seen the car in person, it is pretty dark...

  8. That's a hell of a dumping your folks got in New England Steve!     :(  The 'good weather' pics give us something to look forward to however!  I hope your not too sore from shoveling!   :whistles:

i know the feeling steveiej. i cant count on both hands how many times i woke up to over 20" in one night when i lived in alaska. breaking out the snowblower at 5 am and firing it up so you can go to work will always get you on your neighbors good side!

  9. certainly sounds like belts. Rubber goes hard the colder it gets.

Change belts or have the tension made tighter then see if it still does it.

Also on a cold morning ask a friend to turn the key.. have a listen under the hood

Steve, that avatar scared the crap out of me for a second!

check your powersteering belt. i would bet thats the culprit.

how could it be the starter? isnt that ont he opposite side fo the engine? i'm just asking, i have a Gen I, dont now too much about the upper gen ES's.

  10. I love my 5 speed.  I like how smooth it is. I have had other 5 speeds and they were not as smooth as my ES is. Anyone who has drove it says the same thing. I am very happy with my ES!  ;)  I love owning a 5 speed. Sometimes i can get annoyed when i am stuck in traffic. It don't always bother me just when i been driving all day and i am really tired and i just want to chill.   Right now i prefer owning a manual over an automatic so when i do get annoyed i just think of that.  ;)  :)

    Army,

Don't your sunroof do both (tilt and recede back into the roof)?

ope, it opnly recedes into the roof, no tilt on mine.

  11. It definately has tint, I know the tint on my dad's 98 was similar to my car and his new one so I'd guess that your 95 is similar. The tint is colored to match the color combination of the car, green or brown. Your car and my car have brown tint, both his LS' had/have green. The green is a little more noticable but they're both tinted to the same darkness. The tint is in the glass its not a film like aftermarket tint. You can see the tint in your first pic, look at the grass through the windows compared to in front of the car.

Most cars come tinted from the factory nowadays, my Explorer is tinted, the Lexus is tinted, the Prius is tinted, Mercedes are tinted (the blue tint on Benzes with grey interior is VERY noticable) etc. My guess is thats where the 11% is coming from.

That said, if the person who tinted it was good he tinted it to 20% including the factory tint, so it may still be wrong.

thats a good point Steve. although my lex has no tint (at all, too early...build date, 11/14/1989...Job# 472), i would say probably 3/4 of higher end cars come tinted now. even the 200+ ford taurus coems with a 90% tint.

  12. Your 250 looks great.  I have seen a couple around here but not many.  I saw two in the U Wrench It junkyard last year with most of their parts, but they were gone the next time I went as they rotate out rows after a month.  Anyway, keep up the good work, nice looking engine compartment too!

yeah, she was a gem. i dont think ill ever get rid of her. ill just add to the collection. when i get another car, she gets engien and tranny rebuild. (i keep tossing up between whether or not i want to get a trailer and a jeep or an IS300) if i get the trailer and the jeep, i can put the lex on the trailer to get it to places it needs to go when broken...i just dont know...

thank you very much for the compliments guys. so far she has $2500 sunk into her, and i pait virtually nothing for the car (you will recall i got refunded most of my $$ when my lawyer found out about the steering being a saftey concern). $1800 to be exact. so i paid $200 for this car. so she has $2700 wrapped up in her after the steering rack replacement.

  13. 3 grand with the maintance already done is a good price if you like it

just get a compression test ot make sure the heads and block are good

i agree, all issues of luxury items are easily fixed. the seats, as i said can be swapped in. it has wood trim, all lexi do. the cd changer it already has, about the only option you wont have is the moonroof, which i already adressed. the heated seats are even easy if you swap a set of heated leather seats in, the slots are already there for the switches, as is the wiring im sure, all you have to do is find the switches and connect them!

  14. Hello,

    FYI

Shop order for me front + rear total was $192.00

Here local toyota dealer was selling front or rear pad for $35.00

    Total i paid $75.00.

    Hope this will help.

the rotors ordered for me came out to $197. at that price they better be good, so far i have no complaints, but when i get aftermarket wheels, these wont do, gotta go cross drilled with KVR performance pads...

oh, FYI, they will be noisy for the first 100 miles or so, and for the first 500 miles, these rotors should be exposed to as few sudden stops as possible, they glaze easily when new.

did you isntall them yourself, or did the shop do it for you? if you did it, did you spray them with brake parts cleaner and scrub them with steel wool or a brillo pad before install?

  15. Great pics...especially the interior and engine!! B)

thansk man, you will have to come drive it again once i get the suspension fixed. i would come to you, but with almost 145K on the original timing belt and spark plugs i would rather not push my luck any more than i have to! LOL.

you say you are only 4 hours away from the metroplex, i may make the drive out there after i get my plugs done, i just am afraid that the timing belt may snap. i hope not. i could just see the following conversation:

Me: "Hello, Triple A? i need a tow."

    them: "where are you sir?"

Me: "The Middle of nowhere between Shreveport and Ruston Lousiana...i think im at the 8th bayou past the TX border..."

  16. I have changed the rear and front brakes recently on my 93 Es300. One month ago i had to replace the master cylinder due to low pedal issue. Which is fixed now. But my brake light stays on. I use my hand brake but the light doesn't go off. Do I need adjustment or something? Any comments? Also i used PBR brake pads instead of the original ones. Would that be the cause?

Yes on the dash the brake light is still on. I have added brake fluid but don't see any change. Before it wasn't there. I recently reset the ECU but don't see any change.

make sure the pedal is released all the way. (if you have the foot e-brake) also, look down there, there may be a wire loose. if yours has the handbrake, there is an issue i have with electrical connection for the light, every so often, the light pops on when driving and i tap the handle and it goes away. liek if you hit a bump right, it will pop on. its an electrical issue in my case. in your case, it could be something as simple as this or it could be something as complicated as air in the lines.

  17. Hello Everyone - I've been looking at the ES300 for awhile and have the opportunity to pick up a very clean 93' with 164k miles. It is a one owner and I am aware of the common issues with this model. What makes this particular one unique is that it is a 5 speed. Are there any owners out there with 5 speeds, and how do you enjoy the car with the manual transmission? I know the automatic shifts smooth and strong, but I'd love some feedback on the 5spd. This is a "bare bones" model, it does not even have leather but the fabric looks practically new! No heated seats or moonroof but it does have the cd changer. It was well maintained, body looks excellent, and the clutch was recently replaced. Timing belt was done as well as regular maintenance. Clean Carfax history. Obviously this particular one is a "basic" luxury car, and I have the chance to buy it for $3,000. Any feedback is appeciated. Thanks.

i would go for it! rare find, and the neat thing is, those cloth seats can be swapped out with leather oens from the same model, and you can sell the cloth ones on ebay, beleive me, especailly here in the south, there are plenty of people who hate leather with a passion!!!

as for the sunroof option, the wiring is there, so you can have an aftermarket one installed if you really want one. i personally prefer cars that have them, but i wish mine had a tilt and tilt and slide option rather than receding back into the roof. but i can live with it.

  18. Hello

I finished changing all rotors and I bought a wagner from O Riley. I used Toyota brake-pads for front and rear. Did I do the right thing?

    Thank you

Wagner is an ok brand, i have them on the front and they are quiet as the dead...only thing is, i didnt shop around and i had a local garage do them for me cause i was in a hurry. it cost me $339.52 for 2 rotors and pads+install.. change them yourself, if you dont have time make time LOL.

BTW, the rotors were $100 a piece. for that price, i called brembo and will son be getting the hookup!

  19. Since on the tranny topic, how often do you guys think the tranny oil should be changed in a manual SC?

I no longer believe manuals since I've had some bad experiences doing the changes based on the Maintenance Schedules.

My contour went 270,000 miles on the original transaxle fluid. never a problem. some people dont believe in changing transmeission fluid ever (my grandfather has a 1993 buick Lesabre thats never had a tranny fluid change and the tranny is ending its life at 100K, he wonders why)

my dad didnt think the fluid in the manual tranny ever had to be changed...when i changed the clutch at 270K, the fluid was still bright red. and i drove that car like a bat out of hell too.

now, a lexus is not a contour, but you would hope that a lexus could do it beter than a ford.

but i believe you should change it every 20K or so. i would follow the same interval as the auto trans, at the very most. but some have waited and had it done at the timing belt changes.

    and BTW:

I'm In Love With My Car

DONT RUB IT IN PLZ :blushing:

my car is a money pit, but i must love it, or i wouldnt still have it. i hate people who neglect their cars with a passion :censored:

  20. So there is still water in the tank?  That could be one of the reason why the car run rough.  Why would you weld the tank when there was fuel in there? A bomb was about to blow.   I would remove the fuel pump, exam all your connection.  Remove the old fuel and put in fresh one.

             JPI

There may have been small amount of water in tank (< 1/4 cup).

thats what did it. you are going to have to run the gas all the way out. and then hope you didnt permanetly destroy any engine compnents. water inside your engine is a bad thing, and even 1/4 cup of water can do it. you cant mix gasoline and water. thast like oil and water, they wont mix. i have seen a teaspoon of water dumped into a 20 gallon gas tank (experiment in auto class) and it messed with the ECU on the car. made the ECU think it was running lean so it adjusted the fuel mixture., only it never adjusted back. adding more fuel, the next tnak of gas ran too rich and smoked something fierce, also blew the O2 sensors.

moisture in the fuel system is not a good thing.
