  1. What really amazes me is that Lexus has almost all of its vehicles in the most reliable list— there are lots of Hondas in the same list but no Acuras… It seems that Toyota is the only car manufacturer that knows how to make a car that's luxurious and reliable at the same time. Also, amazing is that Nissan has some of the most and least reliable vehicles.
  2. I own a 1996 LS400, and my future car could be one of the following: Lexus 2006+ GS430 Mercedes Benz R class… I think this is a great vehicle but reliability is a concern. Subaru B9 Tribeca… I wish this vehicle was a little bit faster. It sounds crazy because these vehicles are totally different but I just like them… I wish I could get them all
  3. I hate it when I think too hard :cries:
  4. E-mailed Denso and they told me that I can leave the spark plugs the way they are… I’m confused but I know one thing: I have never gapped a spark plug.
  5. I want to replace my car’s spark plugs with Denso Iridium ones but I’m not sure about one thing. My car’s manual says that spark plugs should have a gap of 0.031” whereas Denso website lists the gap as 0.044”. Is this difference due to fact that my car came out of the factory with conventional spark plugs, and that iridium ones have to have this bigger gap? Or do I have to set the gap according to the one specified in the owner’s manual regardless of what type of spark plug I use? Thanks, 96, LS400
  6. Update I returned the clutch to Auto Zone, and bought a Hayden from a local store for about $75 (including tax). The Hayden clutch was only slightly better than the one from Auto Zone; they both make the fan very loud. So, I returned the Hayden clutch and put back the original one; it’s leaking oil but at least It doesn’t make the engine sound like that of an old Chevy.
  7. Thank you alsalih, I'll try to return the clutch; the Hayden one is available at a local store for about $68 (including tax). I paid about $57 for the Auto Zone clutch; not a huge difference.
  8. I have just replaced my fan clutch with a new aftermarket one from Auto Zone. To my surprise, it is now hard to turn the fan by hand, and the engine sounds very loud while still cold. Is this normal for a new clutch? Or should I return it to Auto Zone? 1996 LS400 Thanks
  9. I don't think Mazda has the sensor thing :P
  10. I have a 1996 LS400 that passed the emissions test about a year ago despite the P0420 and P0430 codes (I had light turned off before going to the test). And, the car runs fine…
  11. It happens. I just hope no damage was done. Good luck! B) ← Everything sounds fine... Thanks god it's not a Nissan :D Thank you
  12. So many thanks to everyone I have just solved my stupid problem which was nothing but very low coolant… a stupid mistake that could have cost my big money.
  13. I have just added 3 quarts of coolant to the water filler inlet and took the car for a test drive and within less than 2 minutes it reached the red mark on the temp gauge. I then parked the car and looked the coolant tank which was empty. As I tried to remove the cap, coolent rushed into the tank and filled it in a matter of 3 seconds. What do you think is my problem? :cries: Thank you
  14. There is no cap on the radiator, and I only put coolant in the tank not in the inlet by the engine. could this be the reason?
  15. Yes this is the first time I do a timing belt and I wish I didn't. I put less than a gallon of antifreeze, and I don't see any leaks, and I didn't replace the thermostat because it was replaced about a year ago (aftermarket). would over tightening the water pump bolts cause such a problem? Thnak you
  16. Hello everyone, I have just finished replacing my timing belt and water pump and the car is now overheating. It happens as soon as I start driving, even at very low speed. When I finished the timing belt job I added antifreeze to the reservoir and then started the engine and it seemed that the antifreeze level didn’t drop. Could it be the thermostat or the water pump? The overheating is so bad that I can’t drive to the nearest dealership. My car is 96 LS400 Thank you for your help Jacob
  17. Thanks to both of you One thing concerns me, when I turn the camshaft at some point it will stop and won’t go anymore. Is this because of the valves touching the pistons and should I worry about this? :(
  18. Hello everyone, I’m in the processes of changing my timing belt but I’m not able to align the installation mark on the timing belt and the one on the crankshaft pulley. It’s always off by one step. Am I missing something? I pulled out the pulley and looked for other marks but couldn’t find any. Your help is appreciated. ’96 LS400
  19. All of us know that different cars have different smells. I haven’t driven so many cars but I find the LS400 to have a very nice aroma. So, how about you fellow members… what do you think is the car with the most beautiful smell?
  20. It has a buy-it-now price of $21,900, so expect the reserve to be something like: $21,000. It might have very low mileage but it is still a ’95; I’d rather pay that money for a 2000 with higher mileage.
  21. That’s not bad if they ship it next business day.
  22. ED, I tried it on my 1996 LS400 and the starter screamed. To all Lexus owners (including ED), please don't try this on your cars This is something an Olds Mobile Aurora has but not a Lexus.
  23. Thank you ED, I was joking though because I don’t want you to damage your car. This is a very convenient feature because people sometimes try to start the engine while it’s running especially in noisy surroundings.
