  1. Hello everybody, Recently, my fuel gauge started to be not so accurate. It never reaches the full line, even when the tank is full, and sometimes while waiting at the red light I see the needle moves a little bit. I searched the forum but I couldn’t find a similar problem for the third generation (95-97). So, do you think my problem is associated with the sending unit, or would it be something else? 96 LS400 @147k !! Thanks
  2. Today, I had the codes erased at AutoZone then drove to the emission station (about 6 miles). The check-engine light was still off, and my car passed the inspection. Thank you bicol-ini
  3. Hello everybody, I have a ’96 LS400 with the check engine light on. And I needed to do the emission test for my registration. So, I disconnected the battery terminal for a few minutes and then went to the emission testing. What I didn’t know is that they check the OBD…. Which they did and told me that the OBD system was not ready so they couldn’t do the test. Would it work if I went to Auto Zone and asked them to reset the fault codes? Thanks
  4. 1990LS400, Thank you. You’re correct about the tire sizes. What a shame that the 245-55-16 tire is not available on tirerack… $141 is a little bit more than what I was planning to spend. SKperformance and SRK, Thank you for the explanation.
  5. Hello everyone, I’m thinking about replacing my LS400 tires (225-60-16) with wider ones: either 235-55-16 or 245-45-16. But I’m concerned about one thing: would the wheel alignment need to be adjusted because of the wider tires? Thank you 1996 LS400, 140k
  6. Is this useful in stop-and-go traffic? I mean could you put it in 2nd gear and leave it like this so it won't keep shifting between gears as you slow down or pick up speed
  7. 200 cars? Are you serious? Maybe none of them was a Toyota because Toyotas have very good A/C's. One good thing about these cars is that the A/C seems to cool even if the engine is at idle speed. Also, you can sit in your parked car with the A/C on for hours and the engine temperature won't go up.
  8. ABSOLUTELY. When I first got my LS400 about 2 years ago I took it to a Toyota dealership for service. They called me back saying that my spark plug wires needed to be replaced and I told them to ago ahead and replace them. The following day, I was waiting at a red light when suddenly the check-engine light started flashing and the car had very weak acceleration. So, I went to an independent mechanic who read the fault code and then removed the passenger-side valve cover and showed me that one of the screws that hold the cover was screwed right into one of the spark plug wires. The mechanic gave a write-up of the problem, and I went back to the Toyota dealership who replaced all the wires again. So… yes it’s not a very good idea to have your Lexus worked on by a Toyota dealership despite the fact that it was made by Toyota.
  9. Congratulations on the new car... But if I were in your shoes I would have waited for a few months and got the LS460
  10. Thanks everyone.... I hope my fuel gauge is ok :)
  11. I have always filled my tank with premium gasoline. However, this time I used regular (due to very high prices), and I have a feeling that the car is not drinking gas as fast as it used to do. So, does regular gas give you more miles? Jacob 96’ LS400, 137k
  12. I only wonder... if Lexus put the Mercedes pointed star on the new LS460 and sold it at Mercedes dealerships (as a Mercedes car). What would the Mercedes enthusiasts think of the car?
  13. nc211 Could it be the aftermarket couplings?
  14. I like the way they look though... especially the new IS... sharp looks
  15. I have a similar problem on my 96 and it's frustrating because I don't know how to fix it. I tried adding a spacer (as described by one of the members) but it didn't work :cries:
  16. Am I missing something here? Are you saying that Toyota doesn’t have much experience because it’s younger than Mercedes?
  17. What’s the difference between the immobilizer and starter cut off?
  18. I thought I read somewhere that it’s not that good. Besides, does the new S have the ability to park itself?!!
  19. That's true. Otherwise why would somebody buy an S280
  20. Thank you for the information srgilbert. I have a '96 with the same problem and I really would like to stop seeing the orange light. Thank you
  21. I sometimes reach 90 mph (for a few seconds) but that’s on the freeway… but on Scottsdale road… No way.
  22. Are your wheels original chrome? Or were they aluminum and then somebody chromed them? Also, you did right thing by ordering new wheels since the crack will grow bigger and lead to fracture.
  23. I’m not an expert but how could somebody replace one strut and leave the other; struts have to be replaced in pairs.
  24. I have a 96 LS400 with 130 K, and I suspect that the engine mounts are in a bad shape… My question is: what is the worst case scenario if I didn’t replace the mounts. Thanks
  25. Who would have thought that this thread would come to life after all this time?!! Since I have both a Saab and a Lexus, I can say that Lexus is the reliable not the Saab… I might come back later. Good times
