  1. I know what you are talking about. The car I test drove had it and mine has it. I went for a ride with a service tech and he said they all have that slight wind noise. He said it had something to do with the mirrors (which changed from 07 to 08) and the aerodynamics of the car. Not sure I'm buying that. It is not that bad and no one else thinks my car is loud so I think I'm being too critical.
  2. Short trips are not relavant to the issue. Short trips cause internal corrosion, the discussion is external corrosion. Ron external corrosion is often a "too late" sign of heavy internal corrosion. I worked in the marine industry for almost 17 years; believe me, I've seen plenty of corrosion! The Y pipe on my 99 GS400 just rusted through sending an O2 bad signal and tripped the check engine light. Welded up the hole and the code went away. The pipe is made of a crap grade of stainless steel. Seem my 99 Chrysler exhaust is still shiny.
  3. I had the exact same problem, sent mine to A&N Technologies, S. Plainfield NJ 908-222-8768, they fixed it for $306
  4. dcfish - let me know if you have some scoop on the nav update, I'm thinking about updating my 99, currently with the 01 version - h_clark at yahoo dot com. Thanks
  5. YOUR CAR HAS TO BE UNDER THE 4 YEAR / 50,000 WARRANTY FOR THE UPDATE. Then it is free of charge. If out of warranty $360.00 at the stealer. I also have heard of sending the harddrive to DENSO for update for $260.00. ← Denso will not work with consumers, you must go through Lexus. Lexus-parts.com sell it for $300.
  6. Slots look nice if your rims show them off. I would suggest a new set of rotors (~$50 each) from the auto parts store and some ceramic pads (~$50 for both wheels). I did this and love the stopping power. The disks have two holes in the middle hat that if you screw a bolt into them, they disc pop off. Apply a little anti seize lube on the "ears" of the pads where they ride the claiper assy. The whole job should not take more than 1-1/2 hours.
  7. I am also looking for tires for my 99 GS400. I found these at Costco: Bridgestone® Potenza RE750 225/55ZR16 Ultra-high performance $130.99 mounted, balanced, lifetime rotation and balance. Read all the Tire Rack reviews and all great. ($122 at Tire Rack before shipping.) TireRack.com has a lot of info when looking for tires.
  8. Just found my notes from that phone call to Lexus on 1/29/04: New hard disk part number is PT219-F3X99-CPX $260 MSRP Next Update is October 2004 I know it is located in the trunk on the passenger side. I haven't checked to see how easy it is to R&R, but I will....
  9. Do you have a spoiler? My Toyota has a loose connector in that wiring.
  10. I remember calling the Lexus 800 number and talking to the guy. He said $250 for a new hard disk with the updated data on it. It comes out in Sept or Oct of every year. I may do it this fall and get the 2004 data. Problem is you can't order it from the 800 number, you need to get it from the local Lexus parts dealer or online and they all set thier own prices. With a swing of $850 to $250, we need to start comparing dealers. Also need to find when the 2004/2005 disk is coming out.
