  1. It probably is due to oxidation on the switch contacts due to lack of use. I used a spray on contact cleaner on the switch which worked very well. Alan
  2. Here's the spoiler that I got from www.spoilerdepot.com for $359.00 on my 2003 ES. The color is Millenium Silver and the price included painting. The paint match was exact! It was just installed by my Lexus dealer this morning. I absolutely love it!!! :D Alan
  3. Too bad! I should have said in the above post that "Full Glass Coverage" is offered as an option in most Auto Insurance Policies.......but you have to pay the additional premium. :( Alan
  4. I'm not too familiar with the Mark Levinson system without the Navigation system. On my 2003 ES w/ Nav and Mark Levinson there is a control called ASL(Automatic Sound Levelizer) which controls the radio volume depending on your speed. Did they ever check out this part of the radio? They might not have this feature without the Nav. Just a thought. Alan
  5. Generally glass coverage is part of your Auto Insurance Policy. I don't think a dealer would replace the windshield out of the goodness of his heart. :) Alan
  6. You probably should bring your car to a Lexus Dealer and have the airbag sensor reset. You can't do this yourself!! Alan
  7. I prefer holding a book(manual) in my hand when I do a repair on my car, rather than having to depend on a CD to display the instructions for a repair on your computer screen. You could pick up a Haynes Toyota Camry repair manual which would cover most any mechanical repair on your '92 Lexus at most auto supply stores for about $12.00. Haynes book number is 92006. Alan
  8. I doubt whether it's a bad alternator causing this whine. Since there are too many variables that would cause this, I would read this before I would replace the alternator: www.avweb.com/news/maint/182896-1.html Alan
  9. They used to put in a condenser in the 12 volt power line to the head unit to eliminate the whining sound you're getting. Go to an auto radio shop and ask them if they sell them. Alan
  10. steviej: I have an '03 ES and I was wondering where you got the rear deck spoiler from. It looks really nice! :) I haven't seen too many spoilers for the '02-'03 models. Did the dealer install it, and if so approximately how much $ did it cost? Alan
  11. My Mistake........Bloomberg is looking for FLiP Sp33d. hehehe :D Alan
  12. FYI: Bloomberg is our Mayor in New York City and he's looking for ProZac. Alan
  13. The hood is pretty heavy and somewhat awkward to hold securely while replacing the struts - at least two people should perform this procedure.. 1- Grasp the upper end of the strut securely and pull out sharply to detach it from the ballstud. 2- Remove the bolt from the lower end and remove the strut. 3- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Alan
  14. Some reasons for this problem: Weak Battery. The distance from the car when trying to actuate the doors or trunk. Radio Frequency interference in the particular area. Key contacts are oxidized. Generally, the door button opens the driver door with one push of the button and if you push the same button twice within one second it'll open all the doors. The trunk button opens the trunk but you have to hold that button down for at least one second before it actuates the release mechanism. Alan
  15. I think you made a wise decision because personally I haven't seen one aftermarket installation that looks as good as the factory unit! I'm not talking about the quality of sound though. :) Alan
  16. You can use either, Denso(Iridium IK20 or PK20TR11 ND), or NGK(BKR6EKPB-11) spark plugs in your 1997 ES. These are OEM plugs. Bosch Platinum plus are NOT OEM, but that doesn't mean that you can't use them. I suggest calling your Lexus dealer to find out what type they recommend and then go to your local auto supply store and ask how much $ they sell them for. :) Alan
  17. I'm waiting by my mailbox for the postman. Alan
  18. steviej: I was able to register in a few minutes. What did you mean about taking days to set up an account? Alan
  19. I went to my Lexus dealer this morning and looked at an '03 Lexus ES without the 6 CD changer in the console and sure 'nuff it had the light there. I was told since the CD changer takes up about half of this compartment it wasn't needed, and that's why I couldn't find it. Problem solved.:) Alan
  20. In a previous post I mentioned that I replaced the OEM battery with a Sears Die-Hard Gold which gave me excellent service for 6 years and it cost me under $80 bucks. It fit the battery carrier perfectly! If you choose to get an Optima battery you'll probably have to modify the battery carrier 'cause physically this battery is smaller. Also, you'll probably spend about $50 bucks more for it!!! Just a thought. ;) Alan
  21. ES= Excellent Sedan? ES= Elegant Sedan? ES= Extra Special? I dunno, but this could make an interesting thread. Alan
  22. On my '94 ES I used a Sears Die Hard Gold. I got 6 years of good service out of it and replaced it with another one. Since it had a 7 year warranty Sears pro-rated the warranty so I got a good deal on the new battery. They checked out the old battery on an electronic battery tester and it failed so they replaced it. Alan
  23. Even though the seat switch light comes on there could still be a burned fuse in part of the circuit. Generally the switch activates a relay and if the fuse to the relay is burned your seat won't heat. Do you have the wiring schematic? Does the passenger seat fail to heat up also? Alan
  24. Stevie, After reading your post I went out to the car and once again I did a thorough search for this light and it was nowhere to be found. I think that when you have the CD changer they eliminated it or they're trying to save money on the '03 model. :D I'll ask the dealer the next time I go over there. Alan
  25. I was reading the Owners Manual on page 70 for my '03 ES and it said that there is supposed to be a light in the center console between the front seats. That's where the CD changer is located. I sure as hell can't find it. Does anybody know where it is? :( Alan
