  1. thanks, all that info is real helpful. im gonna tackle it tomorrow...but where do i find the right washers for it? also, whats the best/recommended brand of gear oil for my car? i live in california so i should go with 90w right? thanks.

  2. oh, i wasnt really asking about what the normal operating temperature is suppose to be but should i be checking the fluid level with engine on or off? i did a tranny pan drain a week ago and got 3 quarts out so i added 3 quarts back in...initially i added only 2 quarts but with the engine on and at normal operating temperature it didnt seem to be sufficient...so i slowly added more until the fluid was at the hot part on the dipstick...(ended up adding another full quart). everyone says only add 2 quarts to a pan drain but it didnt seem to be enough...so im kinda unsure if im over or not..just worrying a little because i dont want anything to go wrong. thanks.

  3. This is my first Lexus and theres no owners manual so I cant figure out if I should check the transmission fluid with the engine running or off? Ive had a few cars where it stated that tranny fluid be checked with the engine on and at normal operating temperature, also had a couple of cars that required normal operating temperatures to be achieved then followed by a key off to check tranny fluid level. I own a 92 LS400 now...any 92 owners that happen to have an owners manual laying around?

  4. has anyone ever kept their nakamichi headunit and install upgraded speakers, sub, and amp? i have a 92 ls400 and i was wondering if its possible...i like the stock headunit look but just want better sound and more bass. any suggestions for good 4" components? also, whats the biggest sub that i can get into the sub enclosure on the rear deck without any real modifications? any suggestions on which sub to go with? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

  5. To take all the guesswork out of it..why dont you just bring it to a designated Gold Shield smog station and have them run all tests on it? Theyll let you know if the cat is bad, along with other emissions related components. If the cat is bad usual symptoms would be poor gas mileage and loss of power as stated above. If you come to a halting stop your car should either shut off or rpm fall down real low then bounce back up because of the restricted exhaust. BTW, cats are supposed to run REAL hot...the reach maximum efficiency at 800 degrees or more.

  6. California only allow the back 3 windows to be tinted with tint @ 35%+. I already made an appointment to have him tint my car in a couple of hours. Either way 20% is illegal and Im planning to tint all 5 windows so I might as well go with the 15%. Limo tint is just way too dark for me...itd be a b%@$! to drive at night. Thanks for all the feedback.

  7. hey VMF, with the 20% tint can you see into the car or see who's inside of the car from outside during the daytime? I need something where I wouldnt really be visible if someone were to look in. Im thinking about going with 14%...Im definitely going to go with the black though. Thanks.

  8. I'm going to get my windows tinted tomorrow but cant decide on which color to go with. My car is black and I cant decide on black tint or bi-metallic tint. Any suggestions? BTW bi-metallic is like a charcoal colored tint that looks kind of reflective from some angles.

  9. im a smog tech and i can assure you that there are pre-1996 vehicles that comply to OBD2. OBD2 wasnt mandated until 1996 but there are a few companies that did introduce it into their vehicles before 1996. 94-95 vehicles produced by lexus would have either been obd2 or obd1...it gets confusing sometimes because ex: id smog an obd1 vehicle and a diff customer brought an identical vehicle in but it was actually obd2. obd1 cars do run better though.

  10. I got my car back yesterday, they changed the speed sensor so i can see how fast i'm going now, but now the air bag light came on. The check engine light is still on as well, wher can i get those jumper wires? Autozone?Kragen? I suppose they are small maybe in the electrical section of those stores?

*go to your office and grab a paper clip*

  11. EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation...and yeah, it is part of your emissions control. egr recirculates about 14% of your exhaust gasses back into the process of combustion to help slow down the combustion process and lower NOx.

  12. hey, i pan drained my tranny a few days ago. i read numorous postings stating that a pan drain will be about 2 quarts... i added 2 quarts, so i did that but when i checked my dip stick (norm. op. temperature,at idle, and on a flat surface) it was still below the line. so i slowly added a few ounces at a time to get it right in the middle of the HOT part of the dip stick. i ended up adding a full quart so im at 3 quarts for my pan drain. when my motor is off and cold (mornings) the atf fluid is actually in the 'hot' zone. i keep seeing postings about a pan drain being 2 quarts but if i actually have 3 in there will this be harmful to my tranny? it seems like 3 quarts is actually the correct amount for me. should a pan drain be done with the car NOT raised? am i doing something wrong here? any help would greatly be appreciated, i need some peace of mind. thanks.
