  1. It can actually be done by removing the throttle body which is MUCH easier than removing the intake
  2. the code for the solenoid no.2 valve means that the valve is not functioning properly. If you remove it, (it is in the transmission pan) you may clean it and it will mostly work again. If not, it is a $150 part.
  3. I wouldnt be surprised if it was the was pump. These cars have bad power steering pumps. Go ahead and change it.

  5. Yeah, I think they made a convertible version of the SC ... it was called the SC430. <_< Chopping the top off a car is not a trivial act. I remember when the nut-jobs on the BBC Top Gear program attempted to convert a sedan to a convertible and had parts flying off it the first time they drove it on the highway. If you want a really big opening in the top, a number of companies make large sliding fabric sunroofs -- photo of an example is attached. Or just find an old Citroen 2CV. The thing is, I was never really that big a fan of the sc430, It looks kinda like a bubble, the look of the 92-2000 sc is timeless, it's an instant classic, It would like nice withoout a roof. I do remember seeing those episodes of Top Gear, that's what got me thinking about it lol.   10. Well, I have owned 3 Lexuses, all three of them '92s, (ES300, LS400, and SC300) and I can definitely say that the quality on these vehicles is outstanding. It's amazing how you can get into a 15 or 20 year old vehicle with 200k+ miles and everything still works as it did when it rolled off the assembly line in Japan. As many others in this forum have expressed, What makes Lexus so popular is its quality and reliability, which are both superior to German cars. My uncle owned several German cars and had many problems with them, now he says that he will never buy a German car again, and he is in love with Lexuses. Many people are starting to make the change from mercedes and BMW to lexus. In about 20 to 30 years, I guarantee that you will see early 90s Lexuses still on the road with 500k+ miles. Now, back to the original topic, Im not a big fan of the RX because im not a fan of SUVs, but I've driven my uncle's and it is very nice riding and very comfortable. It has almost 200k miles and still feels silky smooth.
  11. Thanks for the response. No check engine is not on, and I ran an OBDI diagnostic and no codes are being shown. However, I do think it is the Idle speed control valve (ISC) I took it out and saw that it was stuck in the "closed" position so there was little air coming in. I took apart my ISC and manually adjusted it so I can get the right mix. I'll post more updates
  12. Actually in this car, the drive belt/serpentine belt drives the water pump. I replaced mine last week. However, you must remove not only the timing belt, but also the camshaft sprockets to remove the rear timing plate because part of the water pump is behind that.
  13. I recently purchased a 92 sc300 for cheap to fix it. I think it's been running rich. When cold, I start it up and doesnt stay on for more than a split second. I have to give it some gas so it can stay on. When it's running at normal operating temperature, it will idle decently, unless I start jerking the steering wheel, then it gets rough again The fumes from the exhaust smell like gas. I also pulled the spark plugs and they were all black/smoked I replaced the o2 sensors and gave it a tuneup. I ran a compression test and its showing 150 psi on all cylinders and my timing is perfect. Has anyone else had this problem? input will be appreciated.

  15. ^^^^Thanks for the advice RDM, thats what i'll do on my '92, but where did you get the pipe plug that fit the hole where the valve goes? how big/wide was it?
  16. have you flushed your radiator recently? Maybe there's air in the cooling system. You might wanna put it on a ramp and run it to check for leaks.
  17. Ive had great luck with jdm motors. It would be better to find a jdm 1uz due to the low mileage that you can't find here. There will be a complication with the EGR and some other emissions/vacumms, but it should be good and would recommend it. I put a jdm motor in a supra and it ran great.
