Hope to contribute my 2 cents worth in the future. I used to have an auto body shop for 10 years. Let the questions flow! Presently, I'm at my wits end on my power steering on my 97 LS400 (Coach Edition). Bought with minor front damage. I installed a used power steering pump. I see the fluid is foamy and system groans specially in low speed steering. Followed manufacturer suggested procedure in bleeding (lock to lock). But still I have the groaning and foaming. Can't seem to find any kinks in the lines, though. Before buying/installing a remanufactured pump, I'd like put a last ditch effort. I would like to locate the solenoid screen other members are talking about to cleand the filter if I have one. I cannot seem to locate mine. Anybody with pictures? Thanks a million. mbpgawest Posted May 30, 2004 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Hi amboy19, I believe the screen is found by removing the sensor that is located on the drivers side of the powersteering rack. It will have 2 wires coming off of it. From what I have read you need a chisel to take it off. I was planning on checking mine out when I do my struts in a couple weeks. Good Luck! Let me know if you find it.Mark hi mark! thanks for your quick reply. without a lift, i could not know for sure where that screen could be. you might be talking about the solenoid not a sensor. that's the only piece i saw that had some wires. at any rate, once i can put the car on a lift, i will take some digital pictures and post them here so other members can point out the exact location of the filter. jose Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

VMF Posted May 31, 2004 Share Posted May 31, 2004 OEM procedure includes bleeding the pps and turning wheels when they are on the ground and when the car is jacked up. but in some cases its not enuff to get all the air. i did pps flushon my car and ps pump replacement on my friends GS and the open cap is the ultimate solution to get all the bubbles out. 99lsguy Posted May 31, 2004 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Yes: You are suppose to turn wheels lock to lock and hold for about 2 secs (cycle 2-3 times). This is with engine off and engine on idle. I kept my tires just off ground for both ways. Easier to turn & doesn't scuff the tires! When my car was on idle, I left the P/S cap on LOOSELY while turning lock to lock to let the air escape.
