Hi,

I'm looking to import an LFA and need the below for the EPA and DOT approvals.

Has anyone by any chance tried this already and obtained either of these letters?

Any help would be much appreciated!

You will need to contact the manufacturer and request a letter stating the vehicle meets U.S. EPA and U.S. DOT standards. If it does not meet U.S. standards you will need to request a letter detailing the differences between your vehicle and the US version, also known as a letter of compliance. This must be on manufacturer letterhead.

Thank you

Not sure if there is a Letter of Compliance included in the vehicle documentation pack.
There is in most cases with other vehicle manufacturers (Cars & Bikes) and is included in the Handbook.

Let us know how you get on with the import and any other hurdles you encounter

Hi Trevor,

thank you for your note.

Unfortunately the manual does not contain a letter of compliance or any of the differences.

I've spoken to a lot of people, including the 3 main converters in the country and it appears European cars don't have the advanced airbags on US cars or "obdii".

I have yet to find a helpful Lexus deals who can help with the letter of compliance.  I learned that all big LFA maintenance work is done at a specific garage in California but can't find it online.  Are there any LFA owners here who know the dealership's name so that I can reach out to them? Or any dealership for that matter where any US owners have taken their cars to be serviced. Maybe someone can guide me to the right Lexus contacts.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

You have to reach out to the manufacturer with the vin#, in your case, LEXUS and get the letter from them. In it, it will list the vin # and in the body of the letter if it is in DOT and EPA compliance, or it will list what is not in compliance. It could be cost prohibitive depending on what is not in compliance and to bring those items into compliance if possible.

Hi Angie,  yes precisely, I just don't have the contact details at Lexus to direct my query to.

That's what I'm hoping to get.

Thank you
