Remove Key With Car In Neutral?

I am curious if this can be done. For long maintence[read:slow] I have to disconnect the battery while car is on the lift since I must manually roll the car to center it to the lift. This is because I can't open or close the doors while it is centered in the lift--too close--thus it has to be in neutral to roll and the key has to be turned on for it to be in neutral, etc.etc. Can't crawl thru windows to put on brake to shift,etc,etc.

Already know sympathy won't be forthcoming, but thought someone might respond with a trick that I haven't thought of yet. :D

remove the little black plastic cover beside the shifter and press the key in there to unlock the shifter.then you can leave it in neutral all you want until you put it back in park.

On my 91 ls the shiftlock button will allow me to shift the car into any gear, key or no key! I think the later models dont have the button but instead have a slot?
