cklosi Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I need help with what I should do next, I bought a 2009 is250 that hadthe carbon recall work done by kuni lexus at 67k. They replaced pistonsect and it has a year warranty on the repair work, and the work was donehorrible. I noticed idle issues and it smelling like sulfer while onthe highway so I took it in, they looked over it and said nothing waswrong and gave me a car wash. Well the problem persisted so I decided tolook under the hood myself and there was a MAJOR ground wireunconnected to the motor and it was leeking antifreeze. So I took itback in they reattached it and bled the system and gave another freecarwash. Well a few weeks later I still had the idle issue and noticedwhite smoke on startup so I filmed it to show the service manager. Theylooked over the car AGAIN and said the smoke was from starting it in thecold in the morning, well it was 75 degrees im the afternoon andbillowed smoke from the tailpipe. It keeps blowing white smoke onstartup and they refuse to fix it since they can't replicate it andtheres no check engine light on. I am so !Removed! at the servicedepartment and I think they want me to just go away, wasting my timeuntil the year warranty work runs out. Hell even today I started it andyup...white smoke on startup. I dont know what im going to do sincethey deny anything is wrong. I have videos of the car blowing whitesmoke and they say its "suspect". So any help as to what to do next I'dappreciate it link to video. Kuni Lexus says this is normalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec-1...ature=youtu.be
VBdenny Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 white smoke typically indicates water being in the combustion chamber where it shouldn't be. You said the pistons were replaced? that means a complete engine teardown at which point any of a dozen things with gaskets and such could have been done incorrectly. The MOST common reason for the smoke is a compromised headgasket. I'd be VERY unhappy with the runaround but it is something Lexus dealerships excel at doing. Good coffee though. Denny
VBdenny Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 The sulfur smell has to do with the catalytic converter. Had a Nissan that smelt bad like that all the time. Dealer said it was nothing several times. Luckily (or unluckily depending) when the car was a year old, my wife backed it hard into a Jersey wall on the Capital Beltway when some black ice appeared out of nowhere.
13IS250C Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Oh.....I would be so angry. It is a beautiful car. I sure hope you can make them fix it.
lenore Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 They need to pull the engine and do it over....poor quality work is not acceptable. I would talk to the general manager, and see if things can be done correctly.
