Paul202
Hi, My RX400 is making a squeaking sound when the steering wheel shifts towards the driver (at start up). Any idea's? As with most of these sounds: this is also intermittent. If it occurs more frequently, I will make of video of it. Thanks, regards, Paul. James Horning
Your vehicle is equipped with tilt and telescopic steering wheel position. Your problem sounds like the telescopic function. This can be repaired by cleaning and re-greasing the telescopic portion of the steering column. There is s possibility that over time, if this has been binding the motor or worm gear that actually provides the movement of the column has worn and become noisy. Gaining access to this area requires removal of the knee air bag, you must be familiar with the precautions before attempting repair. Wipe the shaft clean , no chemicals and lubricate with body grease ( yellow) it won't melt , run and has absolutely no odor . Hope this helps. Paul202
Hi James, Yes, this issue is related to the telescopic function. Looking at your comment ("requires removal of the knee airbag ...") I better have this fixed at the dealer .... ;-) THANKS!
