david1walker
I'm starting to notice in my '95LS that every once in a while i will go to raise or lower the wheel and it won't go up or down, it just makes a grinding type of noice. You can turn the car off, and it will work perfectly for the next 10 times you drive it, then it will start doing it again. Anybody have any idea what things I should check, and can you turn the function off by unplugging a fuse if it's too costly to fix? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! LEXIRX330
Problems that come and go are hard to figure out. I would try to see if I could find exactly what was causing the noise. Maybe do a search to see if you can find a diagram. Then you could try to see what is causing it by pulling it apart. Good luck!

landar
Your tilt gears are sometimes meshing and at other times not. Take a look at this thread. There is a video of how to get into the gears to check -> http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60674&st=0&p=448570&hl=tilt%20steering&fromsearch=1entry448570
AzHotLS
Talk about timing. I just did this to my 95 on Saturday. Garden hose washer to the rescue!!
VBdenny
There is a switch right next to the control that turns this feature off. Just press the AUTO button and the wheel will not move.
AzHotLS
Not on the 95 to 97s (and maybe higher).
VBdenny
Didn't know they removed the off on switch in later models. My works perfectly and it will stay that way because it is shut off. Never saw they need for it but I figure if in the future I gain a ton of weight it might come in handy.
