96 Es300 Needs A 6 Disc Cd Changer

I just got a 1996 es300 gold edition for my 18th birthday and man oh man is it a nice ride. now the cd changer in it does not work, it keeps cycling through the cds in the changer but never reads them. has anyone tried to open one of these things?

oh and for my year their kind of expensive on ebay compared to the others, could I buy one for a 97-00 and get a cable to convert it? it'd be really cool if i could do that because they are a lot more common and cheaper on ebay
