Steering Wheel Wont Tilt

Hi Folks,

Steering wheel on my 1996 ls 400 will move in and out but wont tilt up and down-just hear some clicking when i attempt to move it-yet sometimes it moves up and out of the way when i turn off ignition.

What gives?

it sounds to me like the gear in the telescopic wheel has come out of alignment. Heres a video you can view that shows you how to fix it, you can also use a bottle cap as well but that requires a little fabrication.

I use a garden hose washer, works well.

so the washer simply acts as a spacer..
