I recently purchased a 2001 is300 with eshift and an aftermarket turbo. The list of modifications that I know that the car has is as follows: tubonetics turbo and wastegate, intercooler, hks ssqv blowoff valve, greddy protec b boost controller, apexi safc, rc injectors, aem fuel regulator, new fuel line and an aftermarket fuel pump. I don't know if there are any other modifications to this vehicle. It is running extremely rich and blowing black smoke after the turbo starts to kick in. I took it to a specialist to have it tuned on a dyno. He was able to get it dialed in... until it reaches about 4000 rpm... then everything goes south. It will be perfect air/ fuel ratio and then the next pull its blowing smoke and running rich again. He said that he is not sure what the problem could be.. he told me to leave it with him for a day or two at $125 dollars an hour and maybe he can find the problem.... If anyone has had a similar problem, please let me know or at least a good place to start... :chairshot:

IT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT SETUP AND SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE TURBO PROBLEMS. FOR 125 AN HOUR, HE'S SMOKING SOME SERIOUS CRACK. TRY THIS. I HAVE READ YOUR POST ABOUT 3 TIMES TRYING TO THINK OF THE PROBLEM AND ALL I COULD THINK OF IS THAT YOUR ECU IS STILL STOCK AND ONCE YOU HIT A CERTAIN RPM, YOUR AIR/FUEL RATIO STARTS MIXING DIFFERENTLY WITH MPH AND GAS CONSUMPTION. SINCE YOUR 2JZGE WASN'T MEANT FOR TURBO, YOUR ECU ALSO WASN'T MADE TO READ A HIGH INDUCTION OF COMPRESSED AIR RUNNING THROUGH THE SENSORS, SO IT'S KINDA LOST AS WHAT TO DO WITH THE EXTRA AIR. YOU'RE JUST BLOWING OUT UN COMBUSTED AIR. SO YOU SHOULD TRY TO FIND AN ALTEZZA ECU THAT ACTUALLY HAS A 2JZGTE AND NOT THE TOP SECRET MOTOR WHICH IS THE 4 BANGER MR2 TURBO MOTOR. OR YOU CAN FIND A SUPRA TWINTURBO SUPRA ECU. I THINK THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. WELL GOOD LUCK WITH THAT, BUT I'M NEARLY 100% SURE THAT THE ECU WILL BE YOUR PROBLEM.

i think the problem is the apexi safc. i would go with a more powerful piggy back or better yet, a standalone ECU.

the turbo supra ecu will work only if u switch the GE head to a GTE head. then u will have to install the complete engine harness...... much-o de-nair-ro

TwinT, your suggestions and participation in this forum are valued and much appreciated, Thank you.

However, on this forum it is considered rude to type in all caps. Please respect the previous request of a management team member and my current request that you refrain from using all caps in your posts.

Unless, of course, you are yelling at someone.....and that simply won't be tolerated.

sorry about that, don't mean to offend anyone. i have programs at work that only take caps. so when i type on this, i try not to forget to take off the caps but sometimes it's too late. so the caps is not intended and hopefully try not to forget in the future.

Turbo IS3, I agree to an extent to what has been said here. Do you know if the car is running the oem mass air? Hotwire? DLI or coil packs right? No distributor? Pull the car from that shop. Find a better one, preferrably experienced with the 2jz. Here's what I think. A piggy back fuel processor that has the ability to see boost. s-AFC does not. S-afc with AVC-R does it think. E-manage does. Haltech F5 does. You could go HKS VPC but for that money you could probably go complete standalone. As I see your set-up now, there is nothing to account for pressure and therefore no boost dependant fuel addition. Unless you have a mechanical fmu. There are more I'm sure. Any of those should do well and I'm sure there are other options. Simple digital systems makes some stuff that I'd consider trying.

your problem is the safc

remove it and use something else to tune

it is a common problem for some where it will not keep the settings causeing a bad setup of base settings again
