bwilterink
Hey guys my cruise control and horn both went out simultaneously and I was wondering if it could be a cheap fix like a fuse or the cruise control ecu. I'm not willing to spend much as I am a college student but if you have any solutions that would be much appreciated. 1994 Lexus LS with 153,000 miles. dpellet
Any work done recently. Check fuses as this is the easiest but your clockspring may have broken. Clockspring is behind the steering wheel and powers items run off the steering wheel such as horn, cc. if its your culprit the complete switch assembly is available on ebay from time to time. When I had my rack replaced the mechanic neglected to lock the steering wheel in place and broke mine. Of course they had to repair it at there cost to. :) Good Luck
AzHotLS
I agree, the clockspring most likely has gone bad. I bought mine on eBay. Here's a thread showing how to remove the steering wheel with pics showing the clockspring http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/4239...y-98-ls400.html http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/4202...n-98-ls400.html ADDED: Here is another thread talking about the clockspring: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=58307
bwilterink
Hey thanks, I did recently have my rack replaced and they just happened to stop working right around that time. I'll check with the shop to see if they can do anything about it and if for some reason they deny it I'll just replace it myself.
AzHotLS
If they deny it, pressure them. Explain that you know they caused the damage and how you know. Hopefully they'll concede and fix it when they understand you know what you're talking about. If not, file a complaint with the BBB.
dpellet
Azhotls is right, make a stink as it is to coincidental.. They had to take the rack out and disconnect it from the steering, they simply neglected to lock the wheel before disconnect.. I made a stink, they started to dispute but stopped quickly when it became apparent that I knew the procedures better than they did. Best of Luck! Robert Young
Make sure you check both the power side AND the ground side. A ground side fault is generally even more likely when multiple things fail at the same time, although the "clock spring" mentioned above is perhaps the most reasonable guess here.
