az1smith
I just purchased a 2006 LX 470 with 40,000 miles from a dealer in Pennsylvania. I live in Arizona. The 48 month basic warranty is due to expire within the next month, so I had an independent mechanic perform an inspection for any warranty related issues. He said that there was some seepage of grease from each of the inner CV boots. I took the vehicle to a Lexus dealer to see if they would replace the cv boots under warranty. They performed an inspection and said that the cv boots were not torn or cracked, and the clamps were tight. They said that slight seepage like this could be caused by the Arizona heat and that it is considered "normal wear and tear", and therefore not covered under the warranty. Has anybody had an experience similar to this and is slight seepage from the end of the cv boots normal?
NicLX470
I'd say it's normal as long as it is coming from where the metal clamps are. There is never really a perfect seal on parts like that. The rubber boots will degrade and some of the fluid will be let out....and eventually they will bust open in different spots warranting replacement. Mine went out at 85k miles.
