ambar Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Has anyone tried the Super Polysteel Platinum Protection? It is a paint and interior protection product/plan. We have already paid for it, but just want to set our expectation. Thanks, -
SW03ES Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Sold by the dealer? Can you get your money back? Those dealer protection packages are a total ripoff...
jcrome04 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 I second that. The dealer's.. "SIMONIZE never wax your car for 6 years" stuff is crap. it's all a gimmick.
Sophos Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Don't take it hard, though. I ended up with Cilajet from the dealer. It does look nice, but there is little to justify the very high price. I've been compiling a list of the vendors of these paint sealer products that dealers sell: http://www.cilajet.com/ http://www.royalshield.com/ http://www.colourshield.com/ http://www.5starshine.com/ http://tropic-shield.com/ http://xzilon.com/ And here's a detailer that sells multiple different paint sealants and has a paint sealant FAQ: http://www.clean-image.co.uk/paintsealant/index.htm http://www.clean-image.co.uk/articles/paint-sealant-faq.html Though the skeptics among us will choose to read it as an advertisement rather than fact. I think the most real info is probably in the patent mentioned on the 5starshine.com site: http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5081171.html And some information on PTFE, the main chemical most of these sealants claim to use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene
Sophos Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Oddly, it seems that rights to the patent 5,081,171 were purchased in 1993 by Enercy Conservation International. http://www.secinfo.com/dUU93.9k.htm That SEC 10-Q form identifies "Vision Marketing Group" as a former name of "Energy Conservation International". Well, if you like conspiracy theories, VMG LLC is a company that trains and supports the finance departments of car dealerships ... the guys that sell you paint sealant treatments... http://www.vmg-llc.com/products.html And here is a statement about the patent by 5 Star Shine: http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-detailing...ne-answers.html
Chemnerd Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 And here is a statement about the patent by 5 Star Shine: http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-detailing...ne-answers.html So they reformulated back in 92... interesting. I would add one more Teflon paint treatment to the mix: Glipstone Had it put on my LX470 and it looks great after a year. Hoping it will hold up like the claims say.
LEX-SV Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Yes, the Mercedes dealership was pushing something that supposedly was same as stuff "applied to protect jet aircraft finish"....
Southern Pines Peggy Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 PolySteel is a good product to protect the paint and the value of your car. I have used PolySteel on my last two Lexus and similar products on all my cars. I have never used the interior protection plan. I also try to use a "brushless" car wash as I feel the others cause abrasion and dull the finish. When I buy an expensive car, I want to take good care of it. I find my Lexus superior to the other cars, Lincolns and Cadillacs, I have owned. The service and staff are superior. I hope this helps.
