alicias Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 i have a 93 sc400 and a really stupid question: what are those clicking sounds coming from beneath the car while its running and while its turned off and cooling down. it sounds like its coming from the exhaust or from heat shields - [assuming there are heat shields of some kind] - i know its a common sound effect - kind of like dieseling, but this is my first v8. it doesn't seem to affect performance, etc. it doesn't speed up or slow down - in other words, its not affected by the idle. its more like liquid dripping onto something hot and popping.
brucelee Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Normal. They all do it. Metal contracting in engine, exhaust system etc.
UCF3 Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 The rapid clicking one is your CatBack. You can change it.
SPORTcoupe300 Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 It's just the exhaust system cooling down.
AWJ Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Heat sheilds contracting. Perfectly normal. You can take them off if you want.
alicias Posted December 26, 2003 Author Posted December 26, 2003 thanks for the information. that's what i was hoping to hear.
