brucelee Posted December 20, 2003 Posted December 20, 2003 Guys, I am a Lexus SC owner (300 and 400). I am also a auto wholesaler. Wondering if you guys believe there is a market for someone who specializes in these great cars and that can buy and sell them on line. Obviously EBAY Motors exist but I am talking about buying and selling from fans of the cars. Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
JDOwen2 Posted December 20, 2003 Posted December 20, 2003 It appears to me that there are a number of auto wholesalers that deal on EBay. Why limit your self to one model? You could be a specialist though. And pick up a few parts cars along the way and refurbish the ones you sell. Also a good market for parts but then you need storage. Go for it. I'd like to trade my 95 for a 97 or 98!

Also details on your car, pictures would be great. Thanks for ideas.
Calvin L Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 so you're looking for a sc-specific site that you can "distribute" to? this isnt sc-specific, but its close enough because the site deals with Toyota Supras (not Supra turbo, many people often get mistaken between the terms Supra and Supra turbo) www.non-turbo.com is the site that deals with N/A Supras. hope i helped? Sadistic Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 SC's are great cars, but it's extremely limited in it's market right now. That may change if enough of us get our projects finish and start doing things with them. The more known SC drivers get, the more known their car does. Everyone should be on the look out Fast and the Furious 3 Extra calls and we'll train 100 of us over there (lol) That would make the SC the next Civic. Other than that, someone mentioned Sport Compact Car is doing a project car, that will get some noteriety. If I were you, I would specialize in all toyotas, that seems to be a great avenue to venture down. That's what I'm "sorta" doing with mine. Toyota drivers are loyal, and look for places that feel the same way. Owning a Toyota and diving into the aftermarket scene is like being in a giant car club. There is always so much appreciation between Toyota owners.
AWJ Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 The SC will never be the next civic. Mainly because there aren't enough of them. Also because it doen't compare. They are getting cheap enough that some real punks have started rolling in them - but they are fairly few and most don't realize the potential. The SC is a great car but to deal in them specifically would probably be a losing venture. To market cars to this specific website would require authorization. Anyone can guide members to make a good choice or even assist getting a car, but to profit from that would require cleared advertising as far as the USLOC is concerned.
Sadistic Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Well, it will obviously not be the next Civic, and I hope it never is. I think that's one of the greatest parts about the SC, there aren't enough of them around. That's also why it wouldn't be a good idea to cater to just them. I honestly think going all Toyota, all Honda, all Nissan is a very workable venture though. There are plenty of shops that cater only to those, and do fairly well. Honestly, I think the largest shops only cater to certain makes. Selling cars is harder though. The chance of getting repeat customers is small. I'm sure most would be happy to pass your name along, but you can only sell so many cars to so many people. It would take a lot of time and advertising to get yourself in a position that the business could hold it's own. As a business owner I know this just as well as ony other would. You could sell toilet seats and make a lot of money, advertising and besting your competition with good customer service is what makes a business. As long as you can do that, I see no problem in selling all Lexus cars, or all Toyota vehicles.
