Squeaks And Rattles

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's just me, but I've come to notice quite a few squeaks and rattles (coming from the dash, mostly), but also some in the center console area. Anyone else?! I asked the dealer about it and they said that they'd have to remove the whole dash and do "sound proofing", similar to the sound proofing that they've had to do for many drivers side doors (from what I've read in the past).

Has anyone else had to have sound proofing done on their dash, though, and does it fit the bill? Or is this just going to be a waste of my time?!?

Thanks,

I have an 06 300 and have noticed the squeaks, mostly in the winter months. They are fairly well documented, in fact there are TSB's about them, many discussed in detail on the forum.

Personally, I had them remove the center console unit last December and they wrapped it in felt. Once they did this, the squeaks in my console disappeared. The dealer did this for no charge.

I began noticing squeaks in the dash as well...coming from the area around the speakers, up against the windshield. I have not had them do anything with that yet...but this coming fall, I am going to have them fix it up.

Other than those, I have not noticed any other noises while driving....and during the warm weather, the car is very silent, other than stuff rolling around in my glove compartment. (Wife keeps leaving stuff in there....that's gotta stop!) I will admit...I was disappointed when the squeaks began. My two RX's didn't have any squeaking problems...they were built really tight. But hey...if they can fix them...and for no charge...I won't complain about it too much.

Thanks guys. That's what I figured, but I'd always rather be safe than sorry. As much as I want to waste a day at the dealer trying to get all that fixed, it's really starting to get to me now. Plus, my stupid passengers side mirror doesn't move up and down anymore, and 9 times out of ten the side to side function doesn't, either.

Thanks again,

Thats a known problem with Lexus, the side mirrors has plastic gears and they do wear out fast. surprise Lexus havent fix that yet, all they been doing is replacing the mirror assembly. I dont even use my auto tilt anymore knowing that it will wear out those gears faster.

I'm not very impressed with the auto-tilt feature, either. I had it on my truck and had that disabled because it was just plain annoying, but the power-folding part was nice :)

You know, its funny. My dad's old '98 LS had an auto-tilt for the passenger mirror only, which I really liked because that helped with curbs and the drivers mirror helped when backing out of driveways etc. Now they have both mirrors tilt, and I can't stand the drivers mirror tilting because thats what I primarily use when backing to steer.

I wish you could shut one mirror off and not the other...

Just thought I'd give you guys an update: maybe you haven't heard this one yet, but apparently 75% of my "squeaks and rattles" were coming from an aftermarket windshield that was installed in my car (obviously not done correctly by Lexus or anyone reputable, for that matter). So, the windshield had to get replaced by my local dealer, but only after waiting for someone from Corporate Lexus to come out and see my car in person...I guess?!? Since it wasn't under warrantly, it was a big fiasco, but apparently it's fixed now...we'll see if I get my car back tomorrow (in time for me to leave on Saturday for a nice, leasurely 2k mile long trip back home (to Washington)...hope so!

Thanks to all those who helped.

Thanks,

Nerves rattling here! After many years of an absolutely silent vehicle running sitting still or on the open road.....the past couple of years my 99 GS300 developed a vibration that sets off when you pull up to a stop light/sign with the brake on. It dissapears immediately when your foot is removed from the brake and is undetectable when in motion. It has been getting louder the past few years and nobody has a clue how to track it down short of dissasembling the enterior dash assembly. If I could only figure where to stick that chewing gum!!..but it sounds like it is deep inside....I just keep the radio up a little louder!!

Thanks,

I WILL have the soundproofing done on my 2006 GS. I have a squeek in the dash area close to the windshield, and it only surfaces if the outside temperature if 63 degrees or below. Thank all of you for the input. My dealer denied any such problem existed, so now I will confront him.
