tm1414
Looking at a purchasing a 2000 ES. The owner says he had to have odometer/cluster replaced. Says the ECU stores the mileage so what is reflected on the new cluster are true miles. Anyone know if the ECU stores the original mileage? Thanks
SKperformance
I don;t think it is true, it should be stored on the cluster , i have rarely heard of it being summoned from the ecu to show mileage. Carfax and other state inspections should show the true mileage.

triscadek
With most vehicles... starting what year I'm not sure... the ECU will retain the total mileage but it doesn't "tell" the odometer what to read. For instance, if a car really has 50,000 miles on it but the speedometer was unplugged for 10,000 miles the ECU would show 50K miles but the odo would show 40K... make sense?
