I own a 1995 LS400 and on extended highway trips - 45-60 minutes at highway speeds - when I exit and stop the engine idles down rapidly and stops - always starts back easily and immediately resume normal idling. Any idea?

That doesn't sound right. If you were driving a Manual then I would understand.

First thing I would do is look for the Check Engine Light. It kind of sound like your engine is not getting oxygen anymore, but I can't tell without physically having your car in front of me. Try doing this. While the car is in Park, rev your engine once, and see if your car stalls. If it does, try getting a free estimate from a dealer.

Same thing happened to me when my battery was shot. Got a new battery and it worked fine. Also a year after that it started happening again, however it was my A/C Compressor that was almost seized and at low idle when the a/c was on the car would stall. Disconnected the a/c compress and all work well again. Havn't had A/C for about 8 months now, finally just got a new A/C compressor in the mail, just needs to be installed.

Check the battery and alternator for correct charge, output, and connections. Then the spark plugs, cables, and distributors. Then the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel ecu. The cause is in one or more of those items, most likely.

I had a similar problem. My stalling problem seems to have been fixed after I had my mechanic clean the throttle body. An easy fix if it works for you.
