It is hard to tell the difference between gases that are used in the IS. It's fuel injected and can make adjustments good or bad. I can add my experience with a carbureted V-TWIN motorcycle but obviously it a difference machine in every aspect. Also, what is your criteria? Fastest initial, Best for cleaning the internals over time etc....

So anyway - I have a motorcycle with a high compression ratio as well as very high cranking pressure. The calculated CR is 10.6 : 1 and the measured CP is ~240psi. The IS250 CR is 12 : 1 and the CP is specified at 199 psi for reference. Basically, my bike is very sensitive to the octane of the fuel. Excluded high octane race fuels, this bike runs best IMO on 93 octane from the Mobile stations around here. So I would rate this gas as my preference over Shell, BP, Marathon, 76, Clark etc...

Overall, I am happy if I can use Mobile, Shell or BP for any of my vehicles.

My 2 cents,

I've heard so many stories about gas. As if some of the major brands are going to put inferior gas out there....Barkat speaks the truth!

I can't speak for the folks in the U.S.....but we have 4 major brands in Ontario (sunoco, shell, petro canada & esso)....they evaluated the quality of them.....by far the 2 best in order were sunoco & shell. The other 2 (especially esso) had a much higher sulphur content (PPM). Sunoco & Shell are the only 2 I use up here......I like Shell, Chevron & Texaco south of the border.

Honestly, the top tier thing is a marketing gimmick.

-all- gasoline sold in the US is required to meet a set of minimum standards that insures it won't mess your car up.

Here's a nice USA Today article on it, where plenty of qualified folks say it's hype-

I wouldn't say buy Smiley brand gas all the time, but there's no reason to avoid Mobil because they're not buying into the top tier gimmick.

I stay with Shell if I can but will use other name brands without worry.I just don't use off brands.

I've observed better mileage with Sunoco Ultra 93. Performance wise I couldn't tell the difference between the brands.

Sunoco - 27+ mpg

Shell & Exxon - 26+ mpg

BP - 25 - 26 mpg

Miles driven on the same route with very similar conditions
