Rear Lights

Recommended Posts

On my 98 ES300, I've had the rear light malfunction indicator on for about 2 years now. I knew there was a bulb which needed to be replaced and the lazy bum that I am, I never did it. I finally went down to autozone, picked up 2 bulbs for the rear lights and replaced the blown bulb. I felt pretty good about myself that I had replaced a blown bulb in 5 minutes. But the tail light indicator is still on. Now, its driving me crazy trying to fix that problem. I know all the tail lights are working including the stop lamp and the license plate lights.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Maverick.

Be sure and check the high mount stop light and you may have inadvertently purchase "LL", long life, bulbs which sometimes do not draw enough current to reset the bulb failure sensor.

I have never replaced the bulbs in the stop lamp. The only bulbs that were replaced were the bulbs in the rear cluster.

Can I find out what bulbs are needed for tthe rear ?? brake lights, side lights, indicators, etc?

Maybe I can replace everything and then the nagging light will go away.

I know this thread is about 2 months old, but I just came across it. Did you ever fix this problem? I just replaced 3 bulbs in the tail lights, all of them work correctly but my dummy light is still on. Any ideas? :o

Did you get the correct bulbs though? Even if it is working the wrong bulbs will have different resistance cause the sensor to think that a bulb is out.
