  1. I just replaced by Radio LCD display yesterday and the wisea$$ that i am, I tried to repair the bulb for the volume button on my 98 ES300 . The bulb broke while I was trying to get it off. I guess it was soldered onto the board. Now none of the lights work on the radio except the backlight of the LCD. The lights for the buttons don't work. Any suggestions ??? My thought is that I might have fused the volume bulb contacts and so it shorted. Any suggestions would be welvome. I thank everyone for providing such valuable insight into this problem. But now I have a new problem ... :)
  2. Be sure and check the high mount stop light and you may have inadvertently purchase "LL", long life, bulbs which sometimes do not draw enough current to reset the bulb failure sensor. I have never replaced the bulbs in the stop lamp. The only bulbs that were replaced were the bulbs in the rear cluster. Can I find out what bulbs are needed for tthe rear ?? brake lights, side lights, indicators, etc? Maybe I can replace everything and then the nagging light will go away. This guide will give you all the bulb types you need for your car: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/A...ide/default.htm Thanks for the reply. Lets see f I can get the annoying light disappear. Will post results Monday

  4. On my 98 ES300, I've had the rear light malfunction indicator on for about 2 years now. I knew there was a bulb which needed to be replaced and the lazy bum that I am, I never did it. I finally went down to autozone, picked up 2 bulbs for the rear lights and replaced the blown bulb. I felt pretty good about myself that I had replaced a blown bulb in 5 minutes. But the tail light indicator is still on. Now, its driving me crazy trying to fix that problem. I know all the tail lights are working including the stop lamp and the license plate lights. Any suggestions would be welcome. Maverick.
  5. Hello and thank you for all your inputs on the ES350. I have finally decided to go with a new ES350 with the premium plus package (the one with the HID lamps and heated/cooled seats thats $4800 on the lexus site). I went to 2 Atlanta area dealers and the lowest price I got from them was $500 over invoice on any in-stock 2008 ES350. For any vehicle not in stock, the price quoted was $1000 over invoice. This was without any haggling whatsoever. I really think they are trying to move their cars. BTW I got an email from a Honda dealer in the Atlanta area advertising Accords at invoice, meaning you could negotiate to about $1000-1500 below invoice. One of my colleagues recently purchased a Honda Accord for $2000 below invoice. Is the economy really tanking? You guys feel similarly? So my question is how much did you pay for your ES350 and what options did you get? Do not include tax, title, registration as they are different everywhere. Also it would be helpful if we as users of such a big forum can actually setup a deal with dealers as to get the best price from them. So how much did you pay excluding Tax, title, reg. Regards, Maverick
  6. checked the battery, nothing loose there ..... want to check the fuses now. Where are they located exactly ?? I'm sorry but I don't have the foggiest idea what they look like or where they are located. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks, maverick
  7. Hey fellas, A weird thing happenned. While going down an exit ramp, my car hit a bump and stalled. This happenned about 2 weeks back. The fuel level was too low and I put it down to loss of fuel due to the downward slope. My wife was driving and she calmly waited for 2 minutes before attempting to start the engine and the car started. I meant to have it checked out, but didn't get around to doing it. Now the same thing happenned today on the same ramp the same bump and it stalled at the exact same place and today I had more than half a tank of fuel. I put the car in park, removed the key and then immediately tried restarting it and it started. What do you people think could be the problem ? A loose connection is what I'm guessing. I'm too scared to drive the car now. I will have it checked out Tuesday. Hope to God its not a major problem. Am just gonna keep the car parked till I have a dealer check it out. Any suggestions ??? Has anyone experienced this ?? Maverick
  8. blake, i had a similar problem or so I think ..... the check engine light came on and the lexus guy said that he would have to replace the charcoal cannister and the VSV switch .... you have a egr problem ... when you fuel up, do you overfill your fuel tank ?? do u continue pumping gas even after the automatic cutoff ? i was told that overfilling your fuel tank can cause that check engine light to come on too ... Just thought I'd mention my experience. Maverick
  9. Just applied a generous amount of coco butter solid on my beige seats. My hand is scalded from applying the stuff yto the hot leather .... but like u guys said, it just melts on contact and it was pretty easy to apply .... did the entire car in 10 minutes ..... waiting for some time before buffing the seats ..... feel real good about them seats .... Will be doing wifey's car after it gets back from the shop. (Some nutcase ran into the car in the parking lot and didn't even leave an insurance card ) Read this post yesterday and made the Walmart trip at midnight to get the stuff ..... queen helene coco butter solid ..... $3.88 + tax in Atlanta well more later .....

  11. Hey fellow lexi enthusiasts .... I had the same problem with the check engine light ..... The dealer said it was $800.00 expense due to charcoal cannister and VSV switch .... I was really afraid of driving it with the light so for 1 week the car sat at home while I drove a 97 Honda Accord and when today I put my key in my lexus to go to work, that light is no longer there ...... I guess the light came on due my overszealous fueling habits .... I keep fuelling even after the cutoff .... thats what the dealer said anyways when I called him ... anyways no problem at all now .... such a relief ..... Just wanted to share my experience .... Give me your take on this ..... This happened Friday and have driven atleast 300 miles thereafter , the light hasn't come on .... Thx .... Maavrik
  12. thanks for the advice about checking the part# and part name ...... I do not have the part # but have the part names They are 1. Charcoal Canister and 2. VSV Switch set ..... Est. cost $850 ........ Do you guys think I can get it at Toyota for cheaper ???? Will be scouting the Toyota dealerships on Saturday thru Monday ..... Please give me your take on this ....... Any help greatly appreciated ..... Thanks, Maavrik
  13. hey fellow lexus enthusiasts, New to this forum and I wonder why I didn't find this forum earlier. I drive a 98 ES300 and my wife drives a 99 .... The check engine light on my 98 ES300 came on suddenly and I was alarmed ... I immediately took it to the dealer.... (I have always had everything done by dealer) They said something about a vaccuum valve being the problema nd quoted $850.00 .... Now I thought that was a little too much and decided to let the light be on (dealer told me the car would work fine) Well, the car works fine, it still delivers excellent gas mileage (27 mpg), but now I'm worried .... the light is annoying and disturbing..... Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to get it fixed in the most inexpensive manner ? Thanks all u guys .... maavrik
