Sc400 Stuck In Park

Hi, My SC 400 was found dead with a broken timing belt, it was dead and filled with water. I unbolted the driveline to tow it home, replaced the timing belt, and it runs good, except it will not come out of park!!!! I cannot move this car.

What is going on? I sit in the car, make sure the seat belt is on, and try everything and it will not come out of park.

Since I never owned a lexus before there must be something real stupid I am over looking?

You have to press on the brake pedal. If you are doing that, Then the switch that controls that function isn't working. Just a thought.

did u try the shift lock release button located on the shifter bezel?? try that... and as he said above, when u depress the brake pedal, you should hear a CLICK.... that is the shift lock release engaging.

Hi, I got it fixed. The car was used as a dog house, and the windows were left rolled down all winter, it was filled with water.

The problem turned out to be the dog hair and moisture rusted the mechanism, and even pushing the saftey button would not release it, so I took apart the console and oilded the soilnoid, now it works, this car can light up the tires....whoo-hoo, I have $250 worth of parts and some labor in it!

I got it for free!! The wheels were off it, laying in the weeds, the lady had given the tires away, the lugs were lost in her grass, I found

a few. There were some lock lugs that had been on it, but they were a taper seat, not right for these wheels.

It was sitting on wood blocks. She drove it till it died, 146,000 miles, then let her dogs live in it for a while, the battery went dead with the windows down last summer, This is washington, it rains a lot here...It was 3 inches

deep of water in all the seat wells, and the entire interior was all mold, I cleaned the crap out of it with bleach and water,

pulled the drain plugs under the car and used a lot of cosco towels, it cleaned up pretty good.

It started up great with the new btiming belt and water pump, what a !Removed! to work on though, too complicated

for an old chevy head like me! I was suprised it got up and moved pretty good, after 25 or so it takes off!

It was headed to the scrap yard! I saved it from the crusher!

I am looking for 6 lugs

Man o man this is a first for me! What about the smell? Sounds like it came out of scene in Deliverance.

Hehehe, yeah it did smell a bit, it's getting aired out, and I stuck a large pan of baking soda inside to help.

I was really surprised the carpet cleaned up, it was nearly black, but with a stiff brush and bleach water, and some

soap, and a wet-dry vacuum it came very clean, must be good quality carpet, it did not rot....yet.

There are tools I have to help though, I have a small plastics molding shop, so I took my biggest material dryer

and stuck both air hoses in the car with the windows rolled up and let it run all day at 120 degrees, it uses large desiccant canisters which switch

via air valve every 90 minutes, it runs at a minus 40 dew point, it could suck moisture out of camel dust!

I noticed you mention guitar pickups, I mold all TV-Jones bobbins for his pickups, and also Lindy Fralin has me mold his special bobbins.

These are the parts they wind the wire on for inside the pickups, we also make several different soap boxes for TV-Jones! The green shop in the

picture of the car is my molding shop....and sometimes car repair shop!

Sounds like quite a character. How did you find the car?

Hehehe, yeah it did smell a bit, it's getting aired out, and I stuck a large pan of baking soda inside to help.

I was really surprised the carpet cleaned up, it was nearly black, but with a stiff brush and bleach water, and some

soap, and a wet-dry vacuum it came very clean, must be good quality carpet, it did not rot....yet.

Have you peeled back the carpet to look at the floor?

Wow, small world! Yeah I like the twang the TVJ pkps give the tele. It's not my style but sure sounds good. Those country pickers sure know how to get the most out of them. The LF are popular too. Was thinking of picking up a strat and doing some mods with maybe some LFs. Haven't tried them yet. I have a '62 tele, all stock. Age has given it a sound that couldn't be replaced. Use mostly an old (relic) Fender Tremolux tubed with an assortment of 4 tens or 2 fifteens. Puts out about 35- 40 rms max, but the tubes give it a quality no digital can duplicate. I like to mic them and put them through the board. Got that idea from seeing Elvin Bishop live when he was with Butterfield. Also remember reading an interview with Jeff Beck where he describes one of his studio setups. He splits the signal from his strat. Sends one half to the board, and the other to an amp down the stairs in the basement (with all kinds of pipes about the ceiling giving the sound some metallic echo or something) that's mic'd and sent back to the board. It's mixed in according to how much of it he wants to use.
