Someone suggested the battery might be bad. Silly question, if the battery is bad, why does the car start and everything else work (windows, ac, radio, etc.)? While cranking the engine the battery voltage can drop below the threshold of the electronics and cost them to see a dead battery for a moment and that's all it takes for them to reset. I have the same problem with a 1999 RX300. Battery seems strong and fine. I had had a dead battery about three years back and the display showed no problems. Lexus dealer says the problem is probably a leaky capacitor - cannot be changed/repaired single - needs an entire new display because all electronics are integrated.
