knightakkord Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 my 93 ls400 engine check light is on, i'm not sure what is causing it, but when i go 70-80 mph and then let off the gas slightly, the car jerks like it's choking for a second or two. PLEASE I NEED HELP!!! what are the known problems for the engine check light to come on and are any of them associated with this problem?? Email me at: blackakkord@yahoo.com
Carrera228 Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 i'm having a similar problem with my 93 LS (114, 500 miles). the odd thing is, the light only comes on when i reach sustained highway speeds (70-80 mph). I reset the light after the trip and it will not come on (for weeks) until i get on the highway again. any ideas? similar to the above post, my car seems to stumble also on occasion.
SKperformance Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 i might say it is the torque convertor having a hard time to disengage also how long are your 80 mph drives before stopping ?
Carrera228 Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 the engine light and trac liight typically come on about 30 seconds after a reach highway speeds and stay on until i reset the lights.
knightakkord Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 well for mine, i go about 80 mph for only 10-15 mins and i'll notice the jerky behavior when i ease off the gas pedal. and as for the light, it's been constantly on for a couple of weeks now. any ideas??? i really hate to bring it to a dealership if it's something i can repair at home...
SKperformance Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 sounds liek a tranny problem wit them both sorry i know you would have rather heard i plug or wire to fix get the fluid flushed asap and it might help
obergc Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 You need to get into diagnostics and read what fail codes are in your ECM before you go and assume anything. You have to take a wire and short between two terminals (TE1 and E1) on the Data Link Connector, one located under the drivers instrument panel and and one in the engine compartment. Ether connecter will work. If you are not comfortable jumpering these two pins, get a friend that is comfortable with doing it. You count the blinks of the engine malfunction to retrieve a code from the ECM. After you count the blinks, let us know what the code is and you can go from there to put you in the ballpark of what is causing your check engine light.
SKperformance Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 that is the easiest way i just don't want to get into liability of shorting pins and something screws up in the ecu there is a ecu list in the general maintainace section that lists all the obd2 codes

All you do is hold the OFF + REC button (climate control) as you turn your key to the on position. The error codes will display on your top LCD. It's very easy. Is it different for tranny problems?
jsweb Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 I had this same thing on my Infiniti recently. The dealer said it was definitely the Mass Air Flow Sensor. They wiggled some wires, and it was fine from that point forward.
SKperformance Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 :D todd those codes are just for the hvac controls they have nothign to do with the ecu that runs the engine
