Rx300 Diagnostic Code Reader

I've seen a lot of people posting Diagnostic Codes. I have an RX300 with an engine light problem. Two dealers have said "You must have put the gas cap on wrong". But I'm beginning to have starting problems as well.

Anyway what I need is my own Diagnostic Code Reader.

Can anyone suggest a good brand of Code Reader or some good sources for them?

Simple ones can be bought at Walmart, and Harbor Freight Tools cheap. They have to be OBII compliant to plug into the RX...

The owner of a very good transmission shop showed me the model that they used most often.

I went to the manufacturers web site and selected a top of the line model.

List for $ 400. I got it from Amazon or $225.

I'll make this back on the first trip to the shop.
