my350 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 It is a safety feature, it is designed to black out when the car is in motion.
regulus Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 yah i know but is there any way i can turn that safety feature off? a hack Program or hardware removal ?????? can anybody help me?
SW03ES Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Nope, all you can do is be a responsible driver and not watch movies when you're driving.
Count Drakul Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Isn't the point of the DVD playback so that your passengers can watch a movie while in motion? This was going to be the tiebreaker for me between the Ultra-Lux and Premium-Plus package. :(
jwink24 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 There are ways to do it, it involves wire cutting a voided warrenty. I don't think a watching Finding Nemo for the Billionth time will offset the loss of the warranty.
regulus Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 does anybody have a diagram how to cut the safety wire?

This was going to be the tiebreaker for me between the Ultra-Lux and Premium-Plus package. :( No, its against federal law for a screen to be displaying video in the driver's line of sight.

I know that, but the touch LCD is considered "in the driver's line of sight"? I thought "line of sight" referred to anything that might obstruct part of the windshield.
sharpcolorado Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Count, Pull over and watch your movie. Or get a room. Or get a portable DVD player. Or get a Nissan.
AJAX Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I'm in the San Diego, CA area and I'm interested in the DVD playback for passengers. Can you help with instructions or for $ perform the service?
SW03ES Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 "in the driver's line of sight"? I thought "line of sight" referred to anything that might obstruct part of the windshield. absolutely, if the driver can see it, its in his line of sight.
AJAX Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 does anybody have a diagram how to cut the safety wire? Sounds like you got a response from someone. I'm interested in the same thing. Can you share your info with me?

ZeeD Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Question does the screen black out as soon as the car is in D or when you go over a certain speed? Furthemore when exactly does the navigation entering block out, over which speed. any reply would help

I think this feature is just fine. Note: When in Park, you must actually have the parking brake (emergency brake) on (deployed) for the DVD to display. The quality of DVD playback is very good, and the on-screen menu is brilliant.
amf1932 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Question does the screen black out as soon as the car is in D or when you go over a certain speed? Are you talking about playing the DVD? If you are, the screen will go black as soon as you release the parking brake! Furthemore when exactly does the navigation entering block out, over which speed. You can not enter information(grayed out) as soon as the car starts to move.
F1memc Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Yes, you can it involves cutting a *blank* colored wire under the *blank* that connects the *blank* to the DVD system :) However if you do, say bye bye to your warranty.
