A/c Light Blinking

I was messing around on the highway and had the car in 2nd gear. Bounced up against the rev limiter (there is a rev limiter, right?) at about 5500 rpm. Immediately, the A/C stopped producing cold air and the button began to blink. Owners manual says this means the compressor stopped.

So, what did I do? Hope I didn't ruin my A/C compressor.

1990...compressor clutch failure probably overdue.

Maybe. But when I hit the A/C button, the clutch engages and the compressor comes on -- and then shuts down after about 2 seconds.

No A/C in Phoenix is as good as having no car at all -- so I'll get it to the mechanic tomorrow. Gonna have the control arm bushings replaced as well.

Watch the compressor as you have someone else turn the system on and engage the clutch. Does it really spin, or does it just jerk while the fanbelt "slides" by?

My guess (and that's all it is) is that the compressor might be toast.
