Good question! Only Toyota can answer that, I guess. But I've seen the IS as another version of Corollas in asian countries. In most countries Lexus is still Toyota. For example, the LS series is called Toyota Celsior in Japan and some countries. Toyota makes a lot more models than we know here in US.

The all-new IS luxury sports sedans reported best-ever February 2006 sales of 3,882 units, an 807% increase over February 2005. The IS 250 reported sales of 2,710, with the IS 350 recording 1,172 units. This translates to a 69.8% IS250 / 30.2% IS350 split (Lexus predicted 80% IS250 / 20% IS350 back in April '05).
