Hi,

Has anyone used this 3M product for cleaning Throttle body / Air intake system, I saw this product at Toyota, and am wondering if it works as it says, it would be a lot cheaper to DIY then paying Delaership $170 for same job. Product discription from 3M and image are below. Please click on link.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I personally think it is overpriced but that is me.

I use this in all my equipment (for fuel): and there LC20 goes in for ring pack cleaning.

Also the TB can be cleaned with $3.50 synpower cleaner from NAPA.

The Asian automakers warn owners not to use gasoline or oil additives

I havn't used any additives in my 1992 Toyota for 468,000 troubefree miles.

The Asian automakers only recommend cleaning the throttle plate

http://www.saber.net/~monarch/tbclean.jpg which is best accomplished using small amounts of cleaner in combination with a toothbrush and some old rags to scrub the plate clean and wipe up the carbon like goo.

As I stated, I saw this 3M system at TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, If only toyota throttle plate cleaner is recommended, then Toyota dealers would not use this system to clean injectors: Don't know what exactly is the truth, on google search - its one time investment of $50 to buy the kit and then you can always spend $30 to clean the system from 3M. However Toyota dealer charges $170 for one & same thing. :chairshot:

Chair + Cranium = Ouch.

The dealers use whatever they want, most of them stick to big name products they can buy in bulk.

* Fuel system cleaners are just not generally neded.

* Throttle body / Carb / WD-40 / Cleaning lubricant, is found at most places for like $1.50-5

The aerosol intake cleaner looks pretty cool tho.

Dear lord the amount of SF, MMO, Kerosene, carb cleaner & lubricants you could buy for $50!

I usually agree with you, trust me but so far the Fp60 is and has worked great in 2 auto's. I picked up over 1 additional MPG with my ES and my wife picked up almost 0.800 MPG; via 3+ years of tracking with Excel.

I also found that in my GSXR1100 a fuel add GREATLY helped my hesatation from 0 to 60 mpg or in the low end.

Since I HAVE an ES, unlike others, there are same users that only post info from the manufacture only. Then on the other hand the manufacture sells there OWN product to do the very samething that advise not too.

I have found they Toyota/Lexus charges what they want, have issues (several common ones) that are very easy to fix and they think there customers are clueless (and rich too).

Toysrme has some good fixes and so do some others. Do a search since cleaners etc have come up before. It is like some people think you do not need to clean the TB. I can show you a new white shirt that looked black when I was done do to a poor EGR design.

3m has always made solid products.

Its usuage is up to you like many fuel cleaners and additives.

Most additives are useless whole a proper decarbonizing is a great thing to do every so often. A decarbonizer usually involves a little more tools than most have on hand.
