Hey guys, I'm not sure how much help you guys will be able to be but somebody recommended I come here for help...so here I am!

On the way home from school for Christmas break I flipped and totalled my SUV when I hit black ice on a mountain road. I ended up getting (what I felt to be) a pretty good deal on a 1998 Lexus ES300 in perfect cosmetic condition from a dealership in Northern Virginia (paid $8500).

Well I've come across a couple small problems that I was hoping you guys might be able to give me some further incite about.

1) Between 70-75 MPH (speed limit in West Virginia is 70) there is a loud humming that fades in and out toward the front end of the vehicle. I've done some research and read about problems others have had in Toyota's doing the same thing but none offering me an explanation or a fix.

2) The CD changer will read what CD slots have CDs, however the CDs will not play. I'm pretty savvy about audio but I'm not sure whats going on with this.

3) The LCD is burned out on the radio display but I understand that is all too common...is there any way to get a custom head unit for this vehicle or do I have to replace it with the factory unit?

Any help would seriously be appreciated, no matter how long from now it may be...thanks!

r u puttin the cd's in lable down?

No I'm not putting CDs in upside down. When I put them in upside the CD player doesn't even read them as being a disc to choose from. Its just like it never tries to begin playing the CDs

home burned CDs or originals from the store?

Some CD burning programs don't finalize the CDs in a way that the CD unit in the car would like so it just sees a disc but won't play it. I forget which ERR code comes up if any at all.

I can't remember if I was trying to play burned discs or not, I'll go check it out

Unfortunately this was not the problem......I put a CD in slot 6 and it will read that there is a CD that slot. It will begin to spin but it continually sounds as if it's spinning out and then it will cycle through all the CDs and go back to the original slot. It does this cycle repeatedly and never shows any sort of error message.

Maybe the laser that needs to be realligned and cleaned. Clean it first to see if there is a change, Use bought cd's for the test.

How would I go about cleaning the laser? I'm guessing I need to purchase one of those cd's with a brush on it or something of that sort. If the laser needs to be realligned tho I'm guessing I'd be better off simply buying a new CD changer.

Yes, That is the cd cleaner you want. Realigning the laser can be done at a reputable audio shop.
