98 Gs300 Displays On Dashboard (weird)

Hey everybody,

any help is much appreciated....about sometime last week, my car is in Drive and rides nice, but on the dashboard, the green lights show the car is in Neutral and Drive...and the check engine light came on also..Has this ever happened to anybody else..

There is a problem with your transmission position switch, aka. park neutral safety switch. Either the bolt that mounts it to the side of the transmision has come loose (unlikely) or the switch is on the way out. You will most likely find code P1780 in the computer, relating to more than one position selected simultaneously.

If it is loose, adjusting it's position and tightening the bolt should correct your problem. You should clear the code to turn off the MIL (Multifunction Indicator Lamp, check engine) when you are done. Otherwise, replace and align.

Note: You may have to remove the exhaust pipe to access the switch. :-)
