Wd-40 To Remove Emblems

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried using WD-40 to remove the emblems from their Lexus? I'm going to remove them and a guy in the GX470 forum said that the emblem would fall right off. Won't it/will it be bad for the paint in any way? Has anyone tried this? What's the best method of removing the residual gluey substance after taking the emblem off?

WD-40 isn't exactly good for paint, but you shouldn't notice and damage from just a few minutes of contact. I once used it to keep some rust at bay temporarily on my BMW and I didn't notice any ill effects at all.

As for the emblems, a guy once remarked to me that a hair dryer would make it fall right off. I've never tried this personally, but it's worth a shot, perhaps before the WD-40.

Let me know how it works out.

I'll give the hair dryer a try. But...

I'm going to need one heck of a extension cord. LOL.

Does the glue become soft during a hot day? Will it become even softer if I apply water to it? I live in Cali and I'm thinking of sitting it in the sun and washing the car and when I'm done, taking the emblem off. Sound good?

I'm not so sure that making it wet will soften it.

Heat does soften it though

Also, GooGone is pretty effective. (and it will not hurt the paint)

I had to use Nail Polish Remover to clean off the gunk from my emblems once.
