ED. Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 The starter on our '96 is shot and we are just gonna replace the whole thing. I was interested in this Bosch since it is cheaper Bosch Starter I was just curious if anyone here has had any problems with a non OEM one? Thanks
Gumart1 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Ed - I apologize I can't answer your question directly, but I do know that Bosch and Lexus aren't a very good fit for many electrical parts. And of all the parts that might need replacement, the starter is the LAST one I would replace with non-OEM. Book time is 8 hours of labor to replace and I wouldn't want to do it twice. Stick with Denso.

sha4000 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 that is not a part you want to try something new with, go oem
ED. Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Thanks for the info guys. I will definetly be gettting the Denso then. I cant believe book time is 8 hours! Thats whats really gonna get us. thanks again.
ED. Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Going to order Denso starter tonight. I called my dealer and he said book time is 5.0 hours. That aint too bad. He also said you have to remove th eintake manifold and that will require two new gaskets but at least it will be fixed! thanks
Gumart1 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 That's great Ed, 5 hours is actually pretty fair. Performace Lexus of Cincinnati in 2004 charged for 8 hours labor at $75/hr (pretty good hourly rate!), $278.53 for the starter and 63.54 total for both intake manifold gaskets. $15 for shop supplies -total with tax: $1024.06 - ouch!
