bainse
Yesterday the EPA Published its 2006 complete fuel economy guide -- see http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ and more specifically, http://www.fueleconomy.gov/!Removed!/FEG2006.pdf. Ratings for the 4WD RX400h were the same as we've known, 31/27, but interestingly, they also published ratings for a 2WD RX400h, 33/28. I didn't know Lexus was offering one (doesn't mention it on the web site). It is interesting to note side by side comparisons with the other so-called "Luxury SUVs", e.g. from Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, etc., the ratings for which don't come close to the RX400h. And even though the EPA cautions that actual driving conditions may (and we know will) cause drivers not to reach these ratings, they are very accurate for comparing relative performance between vehicles. Also, the EPA web site has a lot of good information about why fuel ratings don't tell the whole story about the benefits of hybrid vehicles (emissions, etc.).
