xtremecycles Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Hello Fello GS'ers, Need help with my 1998 GS400. I did my due dilligence and searched around the forum for solutions to my specific issue and couldn't locate a thread. My Door Lock Switch does not work when my ignition is turned off. When the ignition is turned on, it works fine and even automatically locks when ignition is turned on (automatically unlocks as well when ignition is turned off). With the Switch not working when ignition is off, it does not allow me to use the auto lock/unlock in my key. Tried to upgrade to an aftermarket alarm but will not work until I have this issue resolved. I even put a new Driver's side acutator thinking this may solve the problem. Any help would be immensley appreciated as it is an absolute pain in the butt to constantly manually lock each door everytime I leave the car. Cheers, Ron
SKperformance Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 do you mean the power door lock switch located on both fron doors besdie the window buttons? It may be a problem with the alarm brain ,it is supposed to turn the interiro lock buttons off when it is armed.
xtremecycles Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 Those are the switches that I am referring to.....the ones located near the window buttons. Switch doesn't work when ignition is off. Works fine when ignition is in the on position. I think it may be electrical, rather than a dead switch. I'm to my wits end with this. Anyway....I appreciate you responding SKPerf. do you mean the power door lock switch located on both fron doors besdie the window buttons? It may be a problem with the alarm brain ,it is supposed to turn the interiro lock buttons off when it is armed. ←
SKperformance Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 How long after turning the key to off does it incapacitate the lock buttons? If you stay in the car does it shut them off?
xtremecycles Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 It incapacitate's the locks immediately after I turn the key off. Basically, once the key is turned to the off position, all doorlocks are switched to their unlock position and the lock buttons are no longer functional.......which means I have to lock each door manually everytime I leave the car. When I turn the key ignition to the 'on' position, doorlocks automatically go to the lock position and the lock buttons are once again fully functional. Is this a bad switch or electrical (wiring)? How long after turning the key to off does it incapacitate the lock buttons? If you stay in the car does it shut them off? ←
SKperformance Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Neither. You bought the car used didn't you? You have an aftermarket alarm in the car which is overriding the oem system from the sounds of it.
xtremecycles Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 You are correct.....I bought the car used. Not sure what the previous owner was trying to do, but it's screwed up the locking mechanism. My assumption is that they were trying to install an alarm with an automatic starter.......obviously with no success. I've already had attempts to 'chase' the wires to find a solution, with no luck. Thanks for the help anyway SK. Neither. You bought the car used didn't you? You have an aftermarket alarm in the car which is overriding the oem system from the sounds of it. ←
SKperformance Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 It may be a problem with them tapping the wires for the oem alarm. As the oem one keeps power unless you arm the system. So the power door lock receive the right power when the system is on. I would go to a good alarm/stereo shop and ask them if there is one in the car and if they could remove it. Usually about 100 to get rid of it.
