ahhh more problems with this lexus.....

ok so, i pulled out of the driveway the other day and my tranny jerked in reverse went a couple of feet and stoped i was like hmmmm....maybe i hit something behind me......i put in in D and stepped on the gas the engine reved but the car was hardly moving. it was almost like i was driving a manual and riding the clutch. like when you dont let go all the way...thats how it felt like. but when it got to second and third and fourth it was fine......

i donno wtf is the matter this problem goes in and out......does it have to do with the fact that i did a flush a month ago and the fluid was black when i flushed it?.....anyway nothing is leaking or burning, the fluid level is fine but this damn 1st gear is annoying me.....btw reverse worked after that the whole time. and it seems to be only doing that after i go on the highway for more than 5 minutes......on the street it works most of the time....

Sounds liek the flush loosened some dirt and it is stuck in the valve body.

Either get an external filter or rebuld your valve body.

Either way search for more answers

bad news

the symptoms are nearly identical to when my tranny went

car would not back up, and when going forward in 1st the rpm would be about double what they should be. Past that things seemed normal.

turns out a bearing had come apart and lodged into one set of planetary gears

when I went to the shop they turned off all the accessories and drove me around the block, you could hear a faint grinding of all the bearing bits floating around.

Tranny went at 200,000 kms

The only way it would have to do with a transmission flush, is if it is low on fluid. Drive around the block to ge the fluid warmed up, then check it. It should be at the hot-full line.

In any case, don't let it shift, or stay in a slipping gear for any amount of time. The clutches in A/T's are fairly thin, and take no time to blow through -> transmission rebuild.

got it rebuilt replacing every soft wearable part, torque converter needs doing as well if bearing junk goes through the system $2300 CDN

told me if I wanted to reuse old parts I ie shift solenoids(these were contaminated with metal fillings)/oil pump housing(scarred)/clutches etc... then around $1500CDN

You mentionned that the tranny fluid was black. THis is not uncommon for the fluid that is drained out of the differential and not a serious concern. I talked to my local Lexus mechanic on this and he says for the first few diff changes he always sees black .....

I recently installed (myself) a tranny into my 93 ES300. Got a tranny from a wrecker that had half the mileage of mine. When I drained it, the tranny fluid was a bit dark. The real test is to lower the pan and inspect the fillings caught by the magnets.

I cleaned the filter, its easy to remove and clean in solvent.

I took out and cleaned the valve body. Take it to a shop to have the valve body cleaned. It could be clogged.

JUst follow the instructions in the manual.

Hope this helps.

i live in brooklyn and i dont have a driveway/garage to work on my car....plus i dont have the tolls so its difficult......so u wanna fix my car ill pay you hahhaha

nahhh, i was driving around today and i can feel slipping in all gears now. i feel less aceleration, and strange shifting patterns, im guessing this thing is on its way out....

When you do get it fixed, do what honkand did and buy a lower mileage used tranny. Two of my friends have had their trans. 'rebuilt' at "specialist trans. shops' at a cost of more than a low mileage used trans. and they are still having problems. Transmissions are never quite what they were once they're cracked open and rebuilt IMHO.

Update!

Okay its the middle of october and my tranny is still going strong..yes this is the same one i was talking about in july...i dont know what happended....magic?

Anyway it accelerates, downshifts and runs beautifully.....

the only problem is shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, if i accerate somewhat hard and expect it to shift above 3000 rpms, there is a slight delay in shifting......its ever so slight that only the owner of the car would notice (me). anything below 3000 rpm it shifts harder, more precise....
