Her 1994 Honda was falling apart. My Avalon had 294,000 miles on it and ran like a champ. Major repairs didn't take place until I reached 257k and were suspension and brake related. When the cousin visits I marvel at how its sheetmetal appears to be more solid and dent resistant then my 2000 LS. I put 48,000 highway miles on my LS since purchase in January 2005 and she's now at 117,000. I bought the only non-diesel car that I thought I could get 500,000 miles of comfortable, responsive, reliable transportation from that would rival or surpass that Avalon. I sometimes see the Q45s and Acura RLs and older 350S Diesels that I had considered, but I don't covet them over the LS and I'm glad I made this decision. I'm now at 327,000 miles with my 2000 LS400. I'm about to replace my exhaust. Fuel pump went at 300,000 and radiator hose kept slipping off due to some deterioration of the plastic pipe that the hose fits on to be clamped. It still drives well but my mechanic said they will not do another timing belt (due at 370,000). They have a customer who drives a 2005 LS430 with 42000 miles on it. That is probably my next car as she moves up to the LS460 in the next year.

I am new and I have a (original owned) 1995 LS at 326,000 km. that translates to roughly 204,000 miles Currently my front brakes, shocks, hood support, oxygen sensors and CAT needs replacing, that calls for about $1000-1500 of after market investment but I don't intend to give this car up. While I know i won't make 500k miles like that legendary fella, it should run okay for another 100 k. I am just slightly worry the CD player or Driver's power window will be the first to go in about 2 years time.
OLD SkOOL VIP Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Hey Guys I'm new to this fourm but always been a fan of the Lexus LS series. Since it was introduced in 1990 as a North American model. I'm asian so back in 1998 I visited my relatives in Hong Kong with my uncle and aunt. That was when I got my very first impression of a 1994 LS 400. My other uncle owned one in Hong Kong. There were a few differences in options but prettry much the same car in a Toyota badge aka CELSIOR. As far as long longevity goes my uncle came back to Toronto and not long after bought a 2000. He a real estate agent and drives more then 3 people drive in a year. A few months ago I was by his house to talk and showed him my newly aquired 1993 LS4. He said I got the deal of a lifetime because PO really maintained this LS4 very well. My 1993 LS4 is only got 265000kms= aprox 164654miles My uncle's 2000 LS4 is got aprox 789000kms= aprox 4900235miles no major issues besides the normal wear and tear items (alternator, ball joints, battery, belts, radiator, starter, struts, timming belt, tires, rust proofed yearly, waterpump) but he keep up with maintanience mostly done with LEXUS dealer because he writes it off for business. He hopes to get 1000000kms out of it. Hopefully Lexus Canada will take it in and put it on display on a trade for a new LS460L, LS600h or whatever the current model is. He doesn't drive hard because most of the time he's got clients or family sitting in the back. I think maintainance and how your drive your car will determine how long it will last as well as luck too. I also believe if you are lucky and get a cream of the crop. Not everything is built equal even cars built on the same plant right after each other. So sometimes depends on your luck. OLDSKOOLVIP
GKLCPA Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 My 1996 LS now has 156,000 miles. I purchased 3 years ago with 37K miles. Just took a round trip from eastern PA to CA and back in Sept. Car was magnificent on the road. I've only had to do basic maintenance prior to this year. I had to begin replacing suspension parts this year. The best vehicle I've ever had and I'll get another one after this one goes, which doesn't look to be anytime soon Christ on a crutch!!!! How did you put that many miles on it in 3 years?! I drive a lot. I put on about 30-40 k miles a year just in regular driving and commuting. Add in a few long distance trips on top of that and the miles can stack up quickly. That's the main reason I got the car as I knew it would stand up to the amount of driving I do. BTW, since my last post in December, I've put on another 20K miles and I'm now at 172K. I plan of driving her until at least 300K and then I'll see what happens from there. If she's running well, I'll keep her and if not, I'll upgrade to the 430 or the 460 and run up the miles again! For the most part, I've had to do nothing other than basic maintenance. I'll be putting on some rear shocks shortly and she'll be due for another timing belt in the next couple of months.

The Mrs. wants me to transition into a newer car(08 or 09 Avalon LTD) and we'll leave the LS400 to one of the kids to drive around town.
