  1. Lord above!!! Impressive. Does it have same transmission? I'd be curious to know what major parts have been replaced, major repairs done. I'm only at 414,000 miles and my indy mechanic won't put another belt on it, wants me to buy an Avalon 06-present.
  2. I'm now at 327,000 miles with my 2000 LS400. I'm about to replace my exhaust. Fuel pump went at 300,000 and radiator hose kept slipping off due to some deterioration of the plastic pipe that the hose fits on to be clamped. It still drives well but my mechanic said they will not do another timing belt (due at 370,000). They have a customer who drives a 2005 LS430 with 42000 miles on it. That is probably my next car as she moves up to the LS460 in the next year. I am now at 401,760 miles. Replaced the radiator a few months ago and still drives well. The Mrs. wants me to transition into a newer car(08 or 09 Avalon LTD) and we'll leave the LS400 to one of the kids to drive around town.
  3. If you take care of it, I'd say you're good for another couple of hundred thousand miles. I am at 385,437 miles, mostly highway on my non-nav, basic 2000 LS400. Original engine and tranny, new radiator yesterday, new fuel pump two years ago from running it too often while low on gas, new exhaust and alternator last year. I've used synthetic oil since buying it used with 69,000 miles at auction for $17k in '04.
  4. I just hit 358,000 on my 2000 LS400. The miles are almost all highway. It runs well and handles my 50k yearly work commute. I'd like opinions on whether I should maintain it(replace the rubber parts, etc) and get the next timing belt in about 40,000 or buy a 07 or 08 Avalon Limited.Any advice or your opinions will be appreciated. My indy mechanic says I hold a car too long for a newer LS to make sense in that they have more expensive upkeep that could cause me trouble. The nagging issue for me with my car is the plastic tube from the radiator deteriorating such that the the gasket has to be cinched up high and checked periodically to keep the hose on. The car will also run hot if I'm in gridlock for 40 minutes or so, and I then turn up the heat to get the temp down. This was a trip over our hot New England summer!
  5. I've got 327,000 miles on my LS400 and I'm shooting for 400,000 before I give up the ghost and get an 05 LS430 or 08 Avalon.

  7. I now have 299,637 miles on my 2000 LS400. I'll probably break 400,000 in two years and then buy the 2005 Black LS430 that my mechanic services. It has 48,000 on it now and the owner is an older woman who doesn't even put 12,000 a year on it. My LS has been a workhorse, recent issue has been the only one that caused the car to stop, radiator screen clogged with sand from highway driving and I had a new thermostat put in by another local mechanic as I thought the therm was the problem. Car continued to overheat and leak/spit coolant and I brought it to MYguys and they showed me where the other mechanic did not tighten the clamp for the hose. Car drives well again.
  8. 2000 LS 400 at 250,000 miles with daily 160 Highway mile commute. I'm averaging between 27.5-28.5 per gallon Tank average. I reached 29.2mpg one way just two days ago. I was amazed! :D
  9. I own a 2000 LS400 with a little over 194,000 miles. My daily commute in New England is roughly 150 miles round trip. My general MPG range on this commute is between 26-27. My tank average has reached 28 for some of the trips but it is never under 26 unless I'm dealing with holiday traffic. I am very pleased with my mileage.
  10. B) In December of 2004 I gave my 1995 Toyota Avalon to my wife's cousin because she needed reliable transportation. Her 1994 Honda was falling apart. My Avalon had 294,000 miles on it and ran like a champ. Major repairs didn't take place until I reached 257k and were suspension and brake related. When the cousin visits I marvel at how its sheetmetal appears to be more solid and dent resistant then my 2000 LS. I put 48,000 highway miles on my LS since purchase in January 2005 and she's now at 117,000. I bought the only non-diesel car that I thought I could get 500,000 miles of comfortable, responsive, reliable transportation from that would rival or surpass that Avalon. I sometimes see the Q45s and Acura RLs and older 350S Diesels that I had considered, but I don't covet them over the LS and I'm glad I made this decision.
  11. I have a 45,000 mile yearly commute in New England with my 2000 LS that includes daily 150 mile travel on an interstate. I'm interested in a great snow tire that will last me two seasons. I'm researching what I think are the two best winter tires, Nokian Hakkapellitta RSI and the new Bridgestone Blizzak Revo1. I can't find a head to head comparison of these two as Revo1 is very new. I'd like any opinion on which is better and would last longer under the strains of such a commute. I would use them between mid December and early March. Thanks for your attention.
