skeemer Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 As I told you before, I had this problem with my antenna: When I bought the car, the antenna didn't telescope out correctly always. It would get to the last piece, then make sort of a grinding sound. The dealer didn't want to fix it so they just made it stay out all the time, and said I could fix it if I wanted to. My guess is that they just disconnected the motor from the antenna, since the motor still runs when the car is turned on and off. I'm hoping a service manual could help me here, but would it just be easier to find a junked camry/es antenna motor? Or do you think the antenna just need some lube? I would really like the antenna to go up and down how it should. I stopped by a Toyota dealer today to see what they had to say, and they told me it would be $50 for the mast, and probably 2 hours of labor, for a total cost of about 170. I told them no thanks and left; 2 hours seems like an awful long time just to fix the antenna. What do you guys think? I'm going to call some junkyards tomorrow and see if I can get a camry mast and have my local mechanic replace it instead hopefully, or is this an easy DIY project?
SKperformance Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 i thought i posted it in the faq take off the ant nut/bezel( has 4 slots ) just hold the fm button and turn the key forward it will pop out when you reinsert the mast then turn the key off and it will retract definatly not 2 hours 15 minutes maybe ask to see there manual for approved times they have to show it to you then when it show it is not 2 hours speak to the owner of the dealership might get more than what you needed for the attempted rip off
steviej Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 pay the 50 bucks, and do it yourself already. sk's instructions are simply stated but highly accurate. sometimes replacement masts come with instructions. I know the one I had to replace on my old SSEi did. steve
skeemer Posted June 19, 2003 Author Posted June 19, 2003 You say hold the FM button down, but I replaced my headunit. Do I hold down the "band" button?
SKperformance Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 sorry now you are sol'd i think that might be the reason the dealer said it would cost so much and 2 hours
