lenore
I just came from the Lexus Roseville dealership and they use an additive to the transmission fluid to improve it's characteristics. One additive is called Granatize automatic conditioner, and the other is made byBG automatic transmission conditioner. The other thing recommended is a transmission oil change every 15k miles on the AWD transmission. Yet Lexus of AMerica will not support this position. I asked about the compatibility of these conditioners with Toyota Type IV fluid and was told it is fine and sold at this dealership. Any body else using additives with their fluid? VGR
The BG company makes lube and fluid flushing machines that can help Toyota / Lexus dealers reap big profits by talking Lexus owners into "flushing" their coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, fuel injection system and transmission fluid. In addition, BG makes all the fluids and lubes plus a bunch of additives and offers dealers FREE use of their flushing equipment if dealers agree to use BG branded fluids, lubes and additives. It's a sweetheart deal for BG and Toyota/Lexus dealers, but not so good for Lexus customers who end up with aftermarket quality fluids, lubes and additives in their vehicles. Solution? Buy the right genuine Toyota transmission fluid your car needs at a Toyota dealer Parts Dept (either Toyota Dexron III fluid or Toyota Type T-IV fluid) in 1 quart bottles and just have the transmission oil pan drained and refilled every 15,000 miles by a Toyota dealer. Do't let the dealer talk you into flushes and additives.
