ca12losR
Hi there I got a '93 LS also and I suffer from the same exact problem. It is not the dimmer knob. All the buttons on the center console(AC/Radio/Hazard/Shifter) don't light up at all, when warmer they will try and light up but qickly die which leads me to believe it's a capacitor. When all my lights are off the backlighting on the radio/AC is ON, but when I turn on the headlights/Parking lights the backlight turns off. I hope this is linked to my Cluster problem. My outside temp. and odometer don't even work no more. The coolant Temp is the only working gauge.
Lexls
The instrument cluster is totally unrelated to the radio and climate control unit. ca12, your cluster can be fixed by replacing the capacitors on the circuit board.
ca12losR
Hey LExLS you have a great site Man. I looked at diagrams of the control circuit of the cluster. On one of the boards there is a rheostat control circuit which controls all adjustable lights. I am sure that is where my problem is. All these light problem came along with the dying cluster. I am sure of it.

ca12losR
I know what you mean Barkrat. the dimmer knob controls the rheostat lighting by turning it. but like i said earlier the rheostat has circuits on the notorious cluster board which leads me to beleive that there is yet more capacitors that fail on these boards, after enough people suffer from what swami and I have, maybe then jim walker or someone else will look into other parts of the board.
